Job summary

Workday in Pleasanton, CA seeks a Senior DevOps Engineer to design, implement, and maintain cloud production and development systems across AWS. You will deploy, monitor, automate, and manage enterprise solutions with a focus on developer efficiency and release velocity.

Join a team that collaborates with Dev and QA to build CI/CD tooling, maintain infrastructure as code with Terraform, CodeBuild, CodePipeline and CloudFormation, and troubleshoot complex systems using logs and tracing.

Qualifications

• 5+ yrs of software, systems or networking development, with 2+ years in a dedicated DevOps role.
• Proactive communicator and proven collaborator who can lead in a group.
• Able to work independently and self-teach new systems.
• Ability to work evenings with IST-based engineers.
• Comprehensive experience with AWS and CI/CD with IaC tooling (Terraform, CodeBuild, CodePipeline, CloudFormation).
• Solid experience with S3, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, ElastiCache, CDN, Route53.
• Understanding of ECS and Fargate; strong shell scripting and Python skills.
• Troubleshooting across logs, tracing, configs, and automation.
• Docker containerization system administration and troubleshooting.

About The Role

• Responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Workday Community cloud production and development systems.
• Hands-on in deploying, monitoring, automating and managing enterprise solutions and services in AWS.
• Supports the tools, infrastructure and monitoring that enables the software development lifecycle. Focus on developer efficiency, release velocity, and product quality.
• Maintain an accurate picture of existing server, storage, networking software/hardware and virtual environments to support scaling against various project requirements and production demands.
• Work closely with Dev and QA teams to build and support continuous integration and deployment tooling.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ yrs of software, systems or networking development, with 2+ of those years in a dedicated software development devops engineer role
• A proactive written and verbal communicator and proven collaborator who can work as both a team member and a leader in a group.
• Can work independently and self-teach new systems and designs.
• Ability to work periodically in the evenings with engineers based in the IST time zone
• Comprehensive experience with AWS
• Possession of a solid understanding of CI/CD and be able to build infrastructure as code (IaC) with tools like Terraform, AWS CodeBuild, CodePipeline and CloudFormation
• Solid experience with Amazon S3, RDS, CloudWatch, IAM, Elasticache, CDN, and Route 53
• Understanding and proficiency in serverless environments such as ECS, and Fargate.
• Strong proficiency in shell scripting and Python
• Deep troubleshooting skills that involve analysis of logs, tracing traffic, verifying configuration data, and leveraging automation tools to resolve issues until end-to-end systems are functioning.
• Strong proficiency in Docker containerization system administration and troubleshooting

Other Qualifications

• Experience with leveraging AI tools for coding, code reviews, and troubleshooting infrastructure
• Knowledgeable about security, networking, and RDBMS/Database technologies (Postgres, MySQL, Redis).
• Experience with deploying and maintaining Discourse and Drupal in AWS, as well as systems within Adobe Cloud.
• Experience with restful services, service-oriented architecture, distributed systems, cloud system (AWS) and micro-services.
• Experience with deploying and maintaining Amazon MSK
• Strong vision to put pro-active solutions in place to prevent future problems, and automate processes so that engineers can self-service their operational requirements.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location.
