Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
8+ years software engineering focused on cloud infrastructure, DevOps, platform engineering.
3+ years running Kubernetes at scale in production on public clouds.
Proven track record designing AWS/Azure/GCP infrastructure for SaaS.
Harness IaC tools in production environments.
Strong CI/CD tooling knowledge and modern delivery practices.
Deep cloud security knowledge including encryption and IAM.
Experience with AI-driven tooling or workflow automation.
Familiarity with SOC2 or StateRamp compliance.

Responsibilities

Architect and own multi-tenant cloud infrastructure on Azure and AWS.
Lead IaC strategy across environments for consistency and auditability.
Design and improve CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid feature delivery.
Drive cloud cost optimization and performance efficiency.
Own security posture and coordinate with compliance teams.
Establish observability with Grafana/Prometheus/Azure Monitoring; manage incidents.
Advise engineering, product, and security teams on scalable infra decisions.

Job Summary

OpenGov is modernizing how governments operate — and the infrastructure powering that mission has to be fast, resilient, and built for scale. As a Sr. DevOps Engineer, you’ll own the design and delivery of the cloud systems, CI/CD pipelines, and security architecture that keep our multi-tenant SaaS platform running for thousands of public sector customers. This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who moves fluidly between deep technical execution and cross-functional influence — someone energized by building AI-forward infrastructure that directly shapes how government services are delivered.

Responsibilities

Architect and own OpenGov’s multi-tenant Azure and AWS infrastructure, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery readiness at scale.
Lead infrastructure-as-code strategy using any IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation/Pulumi/Crossplane), driving consistency, repeatability, and auditability across environments.
Design, build, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI etc) that enable rapid, reliable feature delivery across engineering teams.
Drive cloud cost optimization and performance engineering across AWS/Azure services, balancing efficiency with reliability commitments.
Own the security posture of cloud infrastructure and partner with compliance teams on SOC2 and StateRamp adherence.
Establish and manage observability practices using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and Azure Monitoring; lead incident response and post-mortem processes with a focus on systemic improvement.
Serve as a cross-functional technical advisor to engineering, product, and security teams — translating business priorities into scalable infrastructure decisions.
Mentor and develop junior engineers, elevating technical standards and building a culture of operational excellence across the team.

Requirements And Preferred Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
8+ years of software engineering experience with a deep focus on cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and platform engineering.
3+ years running Kubernetes at scale in production on public cloud environments (Azure preferred).
Proven track record designing and managing AWS/Azure/GCP infrastructure for SaaS applications, including Managed Kubernetes Clusters (AKS/GCP/EKS), Database, Networking, RBAC Management etc
Hands-on expertise with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform/CloudFormation/Pulumi/Crossplane) in production environments.
Strong command of CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, or equivalent) and modern delivery practices.
Deep knowledge of cloud security practices, including encryption, RBAC/IAM, and network security architecture.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go, Java, or Ruby).
Experience with AI-driven developer tooling, workflow automation, or agent-based systems in an engineering context.
Familiarity with ArgoCD or other GitOps-based deployment frameworks.
Experience operating in regulated environments and navigating compliance frameworks such as SOC2 or StateRamp.

Compensation

Boston, MA: $175,000 - $195,000

On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.
