Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Chicago seeks a Senior Data Scientist – Rental to transform digital behavioral data into actionable insights that strengthen site performance, optimize digital investments, and drive Rental revenue and customer growth.

This is a data-driven product analytics role focused on site analytics and performance. You will lead the Rental Insights and Analytics team, collaborate with RU Strategy and senior leadership, define KPIs, and develop analytics roadmaps while applying machine

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field with 6+ years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in BI tools, Python and SQL, GA4 and BigQuery.
  • Experience with AWS, Cloud ELT/ETL, Snowflake.
  • Knowledge of ML and data visualization with Power BI and Tableau.
  • Strong initiative, interpersonal and consultative skills; ability to tell stories with data.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a data-driven product development culture to optimize digital investments, increasing Rental revenue, and expanding the customer base through enhanced dealer operations and improved product utilization.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, product owners, and RU Strategy to develop and execute the R&U BI/Analytics roadmap, aligning with goals.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of complex business data and define KPIs and requirements for BI/Analytics.
  • Apply machine learning techniques to develop, implement, and deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision in analytics outputs and reporting.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist – Rental to transform digital behavioral data into actionable insights that strengthen site performance, optimize digital investments, and drive Rental revenue and customer growth. Although titled Data Scientist, this role is centered heavily on advanced site analytics and digital performance.

What will you do? (Essential Responsibilities)

Drive a data-driven product development culture to optimize digital investments, increasing Rental revenue, and expanding the customer base through enhanced dealer operations and improved product utilization.

  • Strategic Collaboration and Execution: Collaborate with senior leadership, product owners, and RU Strategy team to develop and execute the R&U BI/Analytics roadmap, aligning it with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Data Analysis and Requirements Gathering: Conduct in-depth analysis of complex business data, providing valuable insights to support strategic initiatives and operational efficiency. Gather and document business requirements for BI & Analytics, defining KPIs and metrics.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Extensive Experience with the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Machine Learning: Extensive knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.
  • Programming Languages: Extensive knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of applying Python programming to solve business challenges; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages.
  • Query and Database Access Tools: Extensive knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.

Basic Qualifications
  • Desire BS or higher degree in a quantitative discipline such as data science, data analytics, computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, finance, or other related degree and 6+ years of professional experience utilizing quantitative analysis/ data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.) is required, a Master’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience. OR equivalent working experience
  • Proficiency in BI tools, Python and SQL, GA4, BigQuery.
  • Experience with AWS services, Cloud ELT/ETL, Snowflake.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning, and data visualization packages like Power BI and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of AWS services, Cloud ELT/ETL, Data Lake solutions (Snowflake/AWS) and applied knowledge of stackable solutions and automation techniques is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate strong initiative, interpersonal skills, Strong consultative skills, and the ability to communicate and tell compelling stories with data.
Considerations For Top Candidates
  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in Applied Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Science + X, Engineering (Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Industrial, Agricultural, etc.), Informatics, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, MBA with Technical Undergrad, Predictive Analytics, Statistics, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Extensive experience applying Python (NumPy, SciPy, pandas, etc) programming to solve business challenges.
  • Extensive experience (typically 3 years+) with advanced data analysis and statistical methods such as regression, hypothesis testing, ANOVA, statistical process control, etc.
  • Extensive experience in practical applications of Machine Learning techniques such as Clustering, Logistic Regression, Random Forests, SVM or Neural Networks.
  • In-depth technical and problem-solving skills and evidence of continuous learning in the analytics field

Summary Pay Range

$112,710.00 - $183,140.00
