Job summary

HERE Technologies is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Quality and Business Planning team. You will apply statistical and analytic methods, measurements, and machine learning to assess and improve the quality of map products, developing sampling designs, data workflows, and analytics focused on Map and Location quality requirements.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD degree in statistics, mathematics, computer sciences, natural sciences, econometrics, or related fields.
• 5+ years of related work experience.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL; familiarity with R, Matlab, SAS, etc. is a plus.
• Experience with GIS tools for spatial data analysis.
• Knowledge of sampling methods and experimental design.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME on statistical and experimental design methods for Map and Location quality testing processes.
• Interpret objectives and requirements; develop data science solutions and data-driven outcomes.
• Develop sampling plans, data collection, and estimators for map quality evaluations; design A/B experiments.
• Build and test statistical and ML models to improve data-driven map production processes.
• Design and develop data and computing tools for processing quality testing data and results.
• Collaborate with map and location experts, engineering teams, and other groups to deliver high-quality map products.

What's the role?

Our team has partnered closely with customers to build a robust quality measurement system for HD maps, ensuring both safety and availability in automated driving. Through multi-step review processes, we generate independent reference data for map features and attributes, guaranteeing high data integrity. This system not only evaluates map content quality against agreed KPIs but also quantifies the reliability and uncertainty of these measurements, providing timely feedback that supports critical use cases.

As a Senior Data Scientist within the Quality and Business Planning team, you are passionate about delivering quality products. This involves deploying statistical and analytic methods, measurements, and machine learning models to measure and impact the quality of our map products. You are responsible for developing sampling and test designs, data and computing workflows, and analytics centered on Map and Location quality requirements.

What would you do?

• Be a subject matter expert on statistical and experimental design methods for Map and Location quality testing processes
• Interpret project objectives and requirements, create enabling data science solutions and produce impactful outcomes
• Develop sampling plans for data collection, quality evaluation, and the production of training data, along with technical estimators for the evaluation of map quality, and A/B experiments to validate optimization and solution approaches
• Build and test statistical and machine learning models to support improvement of a wide variety of data-driven processes for map making
• Design and develop data and computing tools to enable processing of quality testing data and results
• Work with map and location experts, engineering teams, and other teams across the company to enable high-quality map products

Who are you?

• Master's or PhD degree required. Degree in statistics, mathematics, computer sciences, natural sciences, econometrics, or related fields.
• 5+ years of related work experience
• Team player with good communication, presentation, and people skills
• Proficiency and understanding of sampling methods and experimental design
• Proficiency of machine learning and modeling techniques, including analytic methods such as regression, classifiers, clustering, association rules, decision trees, etc.
• Proficiency with analysis and programming in Python and SQL, or similar packages (R, Matlab, SAS, etc.)
• Knowledge and experience with using GIS tools for spatial data analysis
• Experience with understanding, specifying and explaining measurement and analytic systems with other teams of data scientists and engineers to execute projects delivering those solutions.
• Knowledge of tools for working with big data in Hadoop or Spark for data extraction and preparation for analysis will be a plus
• Knowledge and experience in Quality management, End-to-End quality test strategy and Six Sigma will be a plus

The expected base salary range for this position is $104,600 to $149,000per year. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as skills and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, which is subject to company and individual performance.
