Job summary

Contact Government Services, LLC in Albany, NY seeks a Sr. Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize data pipelines and BI tooling for federal customers. You will work in an Agile team to turn data into actionable insights, focusing on performance, reliability, and automation.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of IT experience with data sets, strong Python/SQL/SAS skills, and experience with big data tools, ETL, and data modeling. A Public Trust clearance is anticipated.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship required and ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
• 7+ years of IT experience with large data sets and models.
• Experience building data pipelines from structured and unstructured sources.
• Proficient in ETL development and validation steps.
• Strong skills in Python, R, SQL, SAS for data manipulation.
• Knowledge of big data tools and storage technologies.
• Familiarity with Agile principles and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and Git.

Overview

CGS is seeking a passionate and driven Sr. Data Engineer to support a rapidly growing Data Analytics and Business Intelligence platform focused on providing solutions that empower federal customers with tools and capabilities to turn data into actionable insights.

Responsibilities

• Complete development efforts across data pipeline to store, manage, and provision to data consumers.
• Be an active and collaborating member of an Agile/Scrum team and follow best practices.
• Write code to ensure performance and reliability of data extraction and processing.
• Support continuous process automation for data ingest.
• Achieve technical excellence by advocating for and adhering to lean‑agile engineering principles and practices such as API‑first design, simple design, continuous integration, version control, and automated testing.
• Work with program management and engineers to implement and document complex and evolving requirements.
• Help cultivate an environment that promotes customer service excellence, innovation, collaboration, and teamwork.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional team that includes user experience researchers, designers, product managers, engineers, and other specialists.

Qualifications

• US Citizen.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
• 7+ years of IT experience, including design, management, and solutioning of large, complex data sets and models.
• Experience developing data pipelines from many structured and unstructured sources in various formats.
• Proficiency in developing ETL processes and performing test and validation steps.
• Strong skills in Python, R, SQL, SAS for manipulating data.
• Strong knowledge of big data analysis and storage tools and technologies.
• Solid understanding of agile principles and ability to apply them.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and ability to apply them.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.

Preferred Skills

• Experience creating and consuming APIs.
• Experience with DHS and knowledge of DHS standards.
• Extensive experience with Python.
• Ability to develop visualizations using Tableau or PowerBI.
• Experience developing shell scripts on Linux.
• Demonstrated experience translating business and technical requirements into comprehensive data strategies and analytic solutions.
• Excellent communication ability across all levels of the organization and conveying technical terms to non‑technical audiences.
