Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record in computer science, economics, applied mathematics, statistics, public health, public administration, public policy, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of in-depth programming experience in a professional and/or academic environment
  • Programming expertise using Python, SQL, SAS, R, or similar data engineering or statistical language; experience with data pipelining and cloud platforms such as Databricks, AWS, GCP, and/or Azure is strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to build consensus and lead teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Experience processing and analyzing health care claims, especially Medicare data, is preferred
  • Subject-matter knowledge in healthcare data is preferred
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation or security clearance for federally contracted work; active CMS EUA ID preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of scalable data pipelines and analysis systems using large Medicare/Medicaid data and survey data
  • Provide creative and best-practice solutions for data processing optimization on cloud platforms
  • Ensure data quality through all stages of data processing with rigorous QC
  • Iteratively inform requirements and specifications, articulating findings to researchers
  • Mentor junior developers and potentially lead small teams of 2–3 developers

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

We areseeking an intellectually curious Sr. Data Analytics Developer in any ofour locations who is passionate about using big data to answer researchquestions that influence decision making in U.S. health care policy. The idealcandidate would haveexcellent knowledge of Python, Databricks and Medicare data, and willwork in languages such as Python and SQL, or other data engineering or statisticalprogramming languages. Individuals with an interest in confrontingthe challenges of working with large, complex data sets, an interest in datamanipulation and analysis, and a desire to become a subject matter expert inhealth care data are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Leading the development of scalable data pipelines and analysis systems involving large secondary data sources such as Medicare and Medicaid administrative claims data and survey data to effectively answer research questions about health care policy
  • Providing creative and best practice solutions for data processing optimization, commonly on cloud computing platforms
  • Ensuring data quality through all stages of data processing with rigorous quality control
  • Iteratively informing requirements and specifications, which will include articulating findings and working with researchers to adjust specifications and code as interim results are found
  • Mentoring junior developers to follow technical standards and best practices, and may lead small teams of 2-3 developers
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record in computer science, economics, applied mathematics, statistics, public health, public administration, public policy, sociology, political science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of in-depth programming experience in a professional and/or academic environment
  • Programming expertise using Python, SQL, SAS, R, Stata, or a similar data engineering or statistical language
    Experience performing data pipelining or analytics using cloud computing platforms and services, such as Databricks, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and/or Microsoft Azure, and/or Databricks is strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to build consensus and lead teams
  • Excellentwritten and oral communication skills, including an ability to explaintechnical concepts and/or engineeringapproaches to a non-technical audience.\
  • Experienceprocessing and analyzing health care claims, especiallyMedicare data is preferred.
  • Subject-matterknowledge in healthcare data preferred.
  • Has theability to pass a background investigation or security clearance for federallycontracted project work; holding an active Centers for Medicare andMedicaid (CMS) Enterprise User Administration (EUA) ID preferred.

This positionoffers an anticipated annual base salary range of $90,000 to $130,000. Thisposition may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company andindividual performance.
