Job summary

Bank of Montreal is seeking a Senior Data Governance Analyst to help transform how Commercial Banking governs and leverages data. You will investigate data issues, build quality controls, automate governance, and modernize the function with AI and new tech.

You’ll collaborate with business leaders, data stewards, and analytics teams to ensure data accuracy, trust, and ready-to-use insights for decision making. This role emphasizes hands-on data work, automation, and governance delivery.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Data Governance/Data Management/Data Quality/Data Analytics or related discipline
  • Strong SQL skills with experience analysing and validating large datasets
  • Strong Python programming and automation experience
  • Experience designing and implementing data quality controls and monitoring frameworks
  • Knowledge of data governance principles, metadata management, lineage, and data stewardship
  • Experience collaborating with both business and technology stakeholders
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve productivity and business outcomes

We’re looking for a curious, analytical, and business-minded Senior Data Governance Analyst to help improve how Commercial Banking manages, governs, and leverages data. This is not a traditional governance role focused solely on policies and documentation. You’ll investigate complex data issues, identify root causes, build data quality controls, automate governance processes, and help modernize the function through AI and emerging technologies. Working closely with business leaders, technology teams, data stewards, and analytics partners, you’ll ensure critical business data is accurate, trusted, and ready to support better decision‑making. What You’ll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain data quality controls across critical Commercial Banking data assets.

What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience analyzing and validating large datasets.
  • Strong Python programming and automation experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing data quality controls and monitoring frameworks.
  • Knowledge of data governance principles, metadata management, lineage, and data stewardship.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Agentic AI frameworks and AI orchestration platforms.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI, OpenAI, LangChain, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or comparable governance tools.
  • Experience using Power BI or Tableau.
  • Banking, commercial lending, risk management, or financial services experience.
  • Understanding of regulatory data management and controls.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.

Salary: $65,000.00 - $140,000.00 Pay Type: Salaried The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position. BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance‑based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
