Job summary

The Lawson Companies, Inc. is seeking an experienced accounting professional to manage general ledger review and the preparation of financial statements for a growing property development and asset management firm in Virginia Beach.

You will handle monthly close, reconciliations, and management reporting, with opportunities to contribute to special projects and process improvements in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of overall general accounting experience.
• Consolidated books/records experience is helpful.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
• Experience with SAGE a plus.
• Construction or real estate development background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Execute monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, reports) per GAAP.
• Prepare complex journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations (cash, prepaid expenses, AR, payroll).
• Prepare journal entries for Construction in Progress monthly.
• Reconcile due to/from accounts.
• Provide monthly consolidated P&L and Balance Sheet analysis for management reporting.
• Reconcile and maintain construction loans and line of credit balances.
• Assist CPAs with year-end workpapers for tax returns and reviewed financial statements.
• Back up cash management duties, including checks, wires, and transfers.

Established local company specializing in property development, asset management, property management and residential construction is seeking an experienced accounting professional. Responsibilities include general ledger review through production of financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, audit schedules, cash management and special projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

• Execute monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, reports) in compliance with GAAP.
• Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable and payroll.
• Prepare journal entries for monthly Construction in Progress entries
• Reconcile due to/from accounts.
• Prepare and or review month balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Provide monthly consolidated Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet analysis for management reporting.
• Reconcile and maintain construction loans and line of credit balances.
• Assist external CPAs with preparation of year-end workpapers for tax return and reviewed financial statement planning.
• Back up Cash Management process with day-to day duties which would include preparation of check requests, wire transfers, processing transfers, draw request analysis and updating bank registers.
• Assist Corporate Accounting Manager or Controller with special projects.
• Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• BA/BS or equivalent?in Accounting or business-related field
• 5+ years of overall general accounting
• Experience with consolidated books and records helpful.
• Strong proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Program?skills required.
• Experience with SAGE a plus
• Construction or real estate development background a plus
• Requires excellent analytical ability, problem solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in teams.

Accounting operations of the company include:

• Communicate routinely on a variety of job-related topics including bonding, insurance, cash flow as well as contract agreements.
• Participate in the formation and implementation of company financial plans. Work with outside accounting/financial firms on monthly close-out procedures.
• Creating new accounting/operations procedures to prepare and manage rapidly growing entities and the evolving business structure.
• Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends in written accounting procedures.
• Work collaboratively and build effective relationships with the design team, builder, site operations and some directly managed vendors.
• Ability to work in a face paced environment.

Physical Functions:

• Bending, kneeling, stretching, squatting, lifting to fifteen (15) pounds
