Job summary

Auria is seeking a Sr Controls Engineer to join our North America Corporate Engineering Group. This role can be located at any Auria plant in the United States and will be based on the successful candidate's location. The role requires up to 50% travel to North American plants.

You will design, integrate and optimize controls systems including robotics and PLCs, work with OEMs, and mentor junior engineers while managing timelines and costs across projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience as a Controls Engineer.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI systems.
  • Industrial protocols such as Ethernet, Profibus, RS-232, DeviceNet, DH+.

Responsibilities

  • Design, update, and improve controls systems including robotics and PLC logic.
  • Integrate machine and plant networking solutions for remote access and data storage.
  • Collaborate with OEMs to meet safety and controls standards.
  • Integrate barcode reading and OCR systems into equipment.
  • Coordinate with management, engineering, and maintenance for successful equipment upgrades.
  • Self-educate on new devices and control systems as technology evolves.
  • Manage timelines and costs for each project.
  • Identify critical spares for new and current equipment.
  • Mentor plant controls engineers where applicable.

Auria is a leading global supplier of highly-engineered systems for automotive flooring, acoustical, thermal, aerodynamic and other fiber-based solutions for gas and electric vehicles. With U.S.-based operational headquarters in Southfield, Michigan, Auria operates 16 manufacturing, 9 technical and 5 JV locations across 10 countries and employs approximately 3,700 people worldwide.

We are currently searching for Sr Controls Engineer to join our North America Corporate Engineering Group. This position can be located at any of our plants in the United States and will be based on the successful candidates current location. The role will also require up to 50% travel to our North America Plants.

What you will do:
  • Design, update, and continuously improve controls systems including robotics, Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, motion controls, operator interfaces, hydraulics and pneumatics controls, and vision systems
  • Integrate machine and plant networking solutions to provide remote access to equipment, equipment monitoring and data storage, and Poke-Yoke traceability
  • Able to work with OEMs to guarantee new equipment is designed and built to Auria’s and national & local authority’s safety and controls standards
  • Integrate various barcode reading and OCR systems into various equipment and secondary tooling
  • Coordinate in a professional and effective manner with all levels of management, engineering, maintenance, etc to ensure new equipment and upgrades are implemented in the best possible means
  • Candidate is expected to teach themselves functionality of new devices and controls systems as technology advances and equipment is updated
  • Manage timelines and costs with each project
  • Assist in identifying critical spares on new and current equipment.
  • Mentor and train plant controls engineers where applicable.

What you will bring:

Travel Requirements:

Ability to travel up to50% of the time to North American Plants, including Mexico

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
  • Ability to setup, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC control systems and related accessories
  • Ability to setup, troubleshoot, and maintain VFD and Servo motor controls
  • Basic LAN knowledge and functionality (TCP/IP)
  • Basic LAN hardware knowledge (switches, cabling, routers)
  • Ability to perform Software installation/upgrading
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems involving thermoforming, IR ovens, Hot Air ovens, Ultrasonic Welding, and robotics
  • Knowledge of safety systems and the integration of those systems.
  • Ability to communicate cross functionally with both plant and corporate teams
