Job summary

Layline Automation seeks an experienced Controls and Instrumentation Engineer skilled in Emerson Ovation DCS. You will design, implement, and modernize control systems for electric utilities and power generation clients. The role is hybrid with up to 30% travel within California.

Responsibilities include Ovation programming, system upgrades, lifecycle management, and ensuring cybersecurity per NERC CIP standards. A Bachelor’s in engineering and 3+ years Ovation experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of direct, hands-on engineering and configuration experience with Emerson Ovation DCS.
• 5+ years in the electric utility or power generation industry.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical single line drawings, control logic drawings, wiring schematics.
• Resides within California.
• High attention to detail with self-management and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with clients.

• System Upgrades & Lifecycle Management: Lead hardware and software migrations, OCR controller upgrades, and third-party protocol integrations.
• Utility & Power Process Integration: Implement and optimize control loops for generation assets.
• Testing & Commissioning: Develop test procedures and lead Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
• Cybersecurity & Compliance: Ensure control system architectures adhere to utility cybersecurity standards, including NERC CIP guidelines and internal policies.

We are looking for an experienced Controls and Instrumentation Engineer with specialized expertise in Emerson Ovation Distributed Control System (DCS). In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and modernization of control systems across electric utility and power generation clients.

This is a HYBRID role with up to 30% travel within the state of California.

• Ovation DCS Engineering & Programming: Design, configure, and maintain Emerson Ovation databases, control sheets and high performance HMI graphics
