Job summary

SpaceX in Starbase, Texas, seeks a Sr. Construction Superintendent to oversee facilities construction projects from start to finish. You will coordinate with design engineers, project managers, vendors, and inspectors to deliver world-class facilities on tight schedules.

This on-site role requires 8+ years in construction, 4+ years leading trades, and ability to read drawings. Proficiency with MS Office and Bluebeam is preferred; strong safety focus and OSHA knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Coordinate facilities projects to ensure vendors meet standards while delivering services, materials, and craftsmanship
• Plan and direct construction activities of internal resources and subcontractors for each phase; lead coordination meetings between trades
• Maintain records of daily logs, progress reports, and financial reports related to construction of facilities
• Enforce contract expectations from subcontractors and communicate discrepancies
• Approve work by subcontractors and handle related issues; authorize payments after inspection
• Maintain a safe work site; enforce OSHA requirements and applicable regulations
• Verify checklists are complete and inspections are scheduled/passed
• Schedule and manage subcontractors for warranty repairs
• Develop rapport with subcontractors, operators, and inspectors; coordinate inspections with local officials
• Create purchase orders to support timely project execution (rentals, materials, or subcontractor labor)

SR. CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

As a critical member of the Texas Construction Projects team, you will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and field execution of facilities construction projects at Starbase. You will work with design engineers, construction project managers, facilities and maintenance technicians, vendors, and internal partners to support these goals. You will have the opportunity to drive positive changes and own projects from start to finish, with the goal of making SpaceX projects into world-class facilities. This position is based in South Texas (Brownsville/South Padre area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinate facilities projects to ensure vendors meet standards while delivering promised services, materials, and craftsmanship
• Plan and direct construction activities of internal resources as well as all involved subcontractors for each phase of construction and lead any coordination meetings between trades
• Work hand-in-hand with the Texas Construction Projects team to maintain accurate records of daily logs, progress reports, and financial reports related to the construction of facilities
• Enforce contract expectations from subcontractors and communicate any discrepancies
• Approve work being performed by subcontractors and handle any related issues
• Authorize payments of subcontractors upon thorough inspection of work
• Maintain a safe work site by implementing safety requirements, enforcing safe work habits, and observing OSHA requirements and any applicable agencies' regulations
• Verify all checklists are complete and inspections are scheduled and passed
• Monitor cleanliness and hold subcontractors responsible for daily clean-up
• Schedule and manage subcontractors to make designated warranty repairs
• Develop and maintain rapport with subcontractors, operators, and inspectors
• Coordinate inspections with local officials
• Review and manage project request tickets, including creating work orders when needed, and managing their completion
• Create purchase orders as necessary to support timely project execution, including but not limited to rentals, materials, or subcontractor labor

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• 8+ years of experience in the construction industry
• 4+ years of experience leading the coordination of multiple construction trades

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration (HVAC/R), concrete, framing, and industrial gas trades
• Knowledge of basic engineering and construction principles and methods
• Ability to conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers
• Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations; ability to mark up and highlight coordination items
• Demonstrated ability to independently and effectively manage projects in an extremely fast-paced and changing environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite tools and PDF editor software such as Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Anticipated hours for this position are 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as necessary to meet business needs; flexibility required
• Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support in emergency situations
• Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying moderately heavy materials or equipment (25 lbs.)
• Occasional travel may be required based on project tasks
• Willingness to work outdoors in an environment requiring exposure to extreme temperatures and elevations
