Job summary

Fishbeck is seeking a Senior Construction Engineer to oversee highway and bridge rehabilitation projects from regional Michigan offices. You will lead field teams, manage budgets, ensure compliance, and coordinate with agencies and clients to deliver complex transportation projects.

The role requires a PE license in Michigan, a civil engineering degree, and 10+ years of MDOT/highway/bridge construction experience, with strong leadership and mentoring abilities.

Qualifications

  • PE license in Michigan is required.
  • 10+ years of MDOT, heavy highway, and/or bridge construction experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee administration and coordination of multiple highway and bridge rehabilitation projects.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with contract documents and project specifications.
  • Plan and lead project meetings (pre-construction, progress, pre-production, public meetings) and distribute minutes.
  • Supervise engineers and technicians in inspection, administration, and documentation from pre-bid to close-out.
  • Manage project pay estimates, contract modifications, work orders, and supporting documentation.
  • Review and validate work produced by the oversight team in field and office.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex assignments and mentor junior staff.
  • Interpret and apply contract documents to address project challenges.
  • Monitor staff performance for contractual compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, agencies, and the public.
  • Advise clients on project status, issues, and solutions.
  • Review and respond to contractor correspondence and claims.
  • Track and manage project budgets and financial concerns.
  • Contribute to business development and growth initiatives.
  • Manage internal budgets for services contracts.

Senior Construction Engineer

Location: Regional Michigan offices

Working with our Civil Field team, you will oversee reconstruction on various road projects and manage project budgets and compliance.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure contractor compliance with contract documents and project specifications.
  • Plan and lead project meetings, including pre-construction, progress, HMA/concrete pre-production, and public meetings. Prepare and distribute meeting minutes.

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Michigan (required).
  • 10+ years of experience in MDOT, heavy highway, and/or bridge construction.
  • Prior experience as a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Engineer overseeing and administering road/bridge construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation engineering from design through final construction.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience handling projects from local streets to complex urban freeways and structures.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions and foster strong partnerships.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and professional problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record.
