Job summary

SAPA Transmission in Shelby Township, MI, is seeking a Senior CNC Programmer with experience in Mastercam, Siemens NX, or similar CAD/CAM systems. You will define machine programming and optimize machining processes for next‑generation transmissions used in U.S. Army tracked vehicles.

You will set up 3–5 axis machines, select cutting tools, implement probing techniques, and collaborate with the shop floor to minimize downtime while maintaining high quality and process efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of hands-on machining experience across turning and milling.
• 5–7 years CNC programming experience with CAD/CAM software such as Siemens NX or Mastercam.
• Experience with Siemens Teamcenter PLM for BOM/BPM management.
• Ability to read blueprints and GD&T.
• Proven commissioning experience for new CNC machines.
• Proficient in G‑Code programming.
• Experience with metal materials like aluminum and steels.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proactive and collaborative work style.

Sr. CNC Programmer

Job Overview

SAPA Transmission is seeking a Senior CNC Programmer with experience in Mastercam, Siemens NX, or other CAD/CAM programming languages. This role will be responsible for creating, implementing, and optimizing machining processes for next‑generation transmissions used in U.S. Army tracked combat vehicles. As a Senior CNC Programmer, you will play a key role in defining machine programming, selecting cutting tools, and implementing probing techniques to develop efficient manufacturing processes that minimize human intervention, quality issues, and machine downtime.

Responsibilities

• Create, implement, and refine NC/CNC programs for 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centers and mill-turn equipment, focusing on the machining of transmission housings, covers, piston housings, gears, and splines.
• Setup CNC machines to run programs for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis centers and mill-turning equipment.
• Analyze engineering specifications, blueprints, and process flows to ensure efficient, accurate machining of transmission components that meet customer requirements.
• Implement lean manufacturing practices to reduce waste, enhance cycle time, improve tool life, and optimize overall equipment effectiveness.
• Collaborate directly with the shop floor team to swiftly address and resolve programming, quality, and manufacturing challenges, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency.
• Utilize Siemens Teamcenter Manufacturing Resource Library to define the tools required for programming component machining processes.
• Oversee cutting tool performance and supplier coordination.
• Support implementation and optimization of cutting tool setups on machines.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–7 years of hands‑on machining experience across turning (lathe) and milling operations.
• Minimum of 5–7 years of CNC programming experience using CAD/CAM software such as Siemens NX, Mastercam, or equivalent.
• Skilled in using Siemens Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software for managing Bill of Materials and Bill of Processes.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, technical specifications, and procedures.
• Proven experience in commissioning new CNC machines.
• Proficient in G‑Code programming with a solid understanding of CNC operation and setup.
• Skilled in using micrometers, bore gauges, depth gauges, and other manual measurement tools.
• Advanced Renishaw probe programming experience preferred.
• Knowledge of machining aluminum, mild steels, alloy steels, and stainless steel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork and problem‑solving.
