Actalent is seeking a Calibration and Instrumentation Technician for a fully onsite role in Wilson, NC. You will perform hands-on calibration and maintenance across process, utility, and manufacturing systems in a GMP environment, ensuring accurate 4-20 mA transmitters and related instrumentation operate reliably.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Title: Calibration and Instrumentation Technician

Job Description

This role supports commissioning, startup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration activities across process, utility, and manufacturing systems at a highly regulated manufacturing facility. You will perform hands-on calibration and instrumentation work, contribute to reliable operation of critical equipment, and develop your expertise in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) pharmaceutical environment while working alongside experienced professionals.

Responsibilities

• Perform process technical calibrations on instruments measuring temperature, pressure, flow, conductivity, and pH to ensure accurate and reliable operation.
• Support commissioning and startup activities for process, utility, and manufacturing systems by verifying instrument performance and completing required checks.
• Execute routine and corrective maintenance on instrumentation, electrical systems, and related equipment to minimize downtime and maintain system integrity.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and instruments, identify root causes of issues, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Conduct loop checks and loop calibrations, including verification and adjustment of 4-20 mA transmitters and associated control circuits.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and instrument documentation to plan and perform work accurately.
• Apply strong documentation practices by completing calibration records, maintenance logs, and other required documentation in a clear, accurate, and timely manner.
• Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) where applicable to record work performed, track equipment history, and manage work orders.
• Follow established procedures and work instructions to ensure compliance with GMP/GxP and other applicable regulatory or quality standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operations personnel to support safe and reliable operation of process and utility systems.
• Adhere to electrical troubleshooting fundamentals and safety practices when working on or around electrical systems.
• Participate in ongoing project activities and support future growth initiatives by maintaining flexibility and a strong focus on quality and reliability.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in calibration, instrumentation, metrology, instrumentation and electrical (I&E), or maintenance roles.
• Proven experience troubleshooting equipment and instruments in manufacturing, industrial, utility, military, pharmaceutical, biotech, food and beverage, or similar environments.
• Strong documentation practices with the ability to complete accurate, compliant, and legible records.
• Solid understanding of electrical troubleshooting fundamentals and safe work practices.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and instrument documentation.
• Hands-on experience with process technical calibrations, including temperature, pressure, flow, conductivity, and pH.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for manufacturing equipment and instruments in highly regulated or critical environments.
• Familiarity with working in highly regulated settings such as GMP, nuclear, military, FDA-regulated, oil and gas, food and beverage, or metrology environments.
• Competence working with instrumentation, documentation, electrical systems, loop checks, and transmitters.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience performing pressure calibration on process and utility instruments.
• Experience performing temperature calibration using appropriate standards and equipment.
• Knowledge of flow instrumentation calibration and verification techniques.
• Experience with conductivity instrumentation, including calibration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with pH instrumentation, including sensor calibration and maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with loop calibrations and verification of control loops.
• Familiarity with 4-20 mA transmitters and their configuration, calibration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to manage work orders and equipment records.
• Exposure to GMP or GxP environments and understanding of compliance expectations.
• OSHA training or familiarity with occupational safety practices in industrial or manufacturing environments.
• History in roles such as Calibration Technician, Metrology Technician, Instrument Technician, Instrumentation Technician, I&E Technician, Process Controls Technician, Military PMEL/TMDE, Pharmaceutical Maintenance Technician, Oil and Gas Measurement Technician, or Utilities Technician.
• Interest in building a long-term career in calibration, metrology, instrumentation, and controls.
• Motivation to learn troubleshooting, instrumentation, and process systems from experienced professionals.

Work Environment

The position is fully onsite at a large pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, working on site five days per week. You will work in a highly regulated GMP environment with exposure to process, utility, and manufacturing systems and will gain hands-on experience with calibration and instrumentation technologies, including temperature, pressure, flow, conductivity, pH instruments, and 4-20 mA transmitters. The role involves working around active production areas, utilities, and technical spaces, following strict safety and documentation procedures. You will use tools and equipment typical of calibration, metrology, and electrical troubleshooting work, and you will collaborate closely with a team of technicians and engineers on ongoing project activities with consistent workload and future growth opportunities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilson, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $52.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
