Job summary

Hydranautics, a Nitto Group company, is seeking a senior buyer to lead strategic purchases of raw materials, equipment, supplies and services. Under general supervision, you will negotiate prices and terms, analyze cost components, and drive cost reduction while improving service levels, quality and working capital across the supply chain.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Business Administration.
• 5–8 years’ experience in strategic procurement and materials management.
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems, preferably JD Edwards.
• Ability to travel to vendor sites.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Total Quality Management.

Responsibilities

• Conduct acquisition of raw materials, equipment, supplies and services at cost-effective terms.
• Analyze pricing components and implement cost-reduction measures.
• Resolve price/term issues and maintain supplier relationships.
• Review quotes and select suppliers per criteria; consult peers on environmental and product criteria.
• Manage supplier issues with Quality and suppliers; ensure timely resolution.
• Monitor MRP to replenish materials and maintain JDE data accuracy.
• Collaborate with planning, manufacturing, engineering and product development on material quality and supply.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

Under general supervision, perform high-level strategic purchases for raw materials, equipment, supplies and services of high value. Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers to obtain satisfactory purchase orders and/or contracts for key commodities as required by the organization in a timely manner. Ensure continuous improvement in cost, service, quality and working capital by partnering with key suppliers and internal functional groups. Drive cost reduction measures and seek creative solutions in achieving organizational profitability within the supply chain function.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

• Conduct the acquisition of raw materials, equipment, supplies and services required by the company to conduct business, in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible.
• Analyze pricing components and seek creative solutions to achieve cost reduction measures with suppliers and vendors.
• Resolve complex issues concerning price, terms or delivery dates while maintaining a good seller/buyer relationship.
• Negotiate favorable prices and terms with suppliers with the objective of obtaining the most cost-effective purchase terms and conditions.
• Review quotes and proposals from suppliers, select a supplier according to company established criteria; and, seek consultation from peers and supervisors, to resolve any questions regarding environmental safety and product-specific criteria.
• Manage the timely resolution of any supplier problems or product defects with regards to purchased goods with Quality and suppliers.
• Evaluate MRP to determine replenishment of raw material and maintain accurate data within the JDE ERP database.
• Partner with planning, manufacturing, engineering and product development for opportunities related to supply and quality of materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Business Administration and 5-8 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong working knowledge of strategic procurement and materials management, production methods, supply chain management, DRP, MPS, CRP, MRP, negotiation techniques, legal aspects and supplier management.
• Working ability to consider the relative costs, risks and benefits of potential actions and choose the most appropriate one to achieve company objectives.
• Experience in analyzing contract terms and liabilities to mitigate risks.
• Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and enterprise material planning software such as JD Edwards; basic working knowledge of Project Management using MS Project software.
• Solid working experience in negotiating contracts and developing viable inventory management strategies and systems, including understanding terms and conditions within contracts.
• Ability to travel to vendor sites when necessary.
• Basic understanding of Total Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing concepts and approaches.
