Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC's Accounting BI team seeks a Sr. Business Intelligence Engineer to lead automation, reporting, and AI-driven solutions for finance.

You will partner with accountants, data engineers, and Fintech teams to improve data accuracy and timeliness across global operations. As a senior BIE, you will set technical direction for GenAI-enabled accounting automation, mentor junior engineers, and uphold high standards through design and code reviews, while leveraging AWS and scalable

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of professional or military experience.
• Experience processing large, multi-dimensional datasets from multiple sources.
• 5+ years in a Data Analyst, Data Engineer, or BI Analyst role or similar.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Economics, or related field.
• Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets.
• Experience with AWS technologies.
• Experience scripting for automation (Python) and advanced SQL.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in professional settings.

The Accounting BI team supports the global Accounting organization with process automation, automated reporting, and AI-driven solutions that improve how accountants process, analyze, and consume accurate and timely financial data. We partner closely with accountants, financial analysts, Data Engineering, and Fintech engineering teams across the many businesses Amazon operates in.

As a Sr. BIE, you will tackle the most complex, ambiguous projects across our Accounting BI organization and own the general applications and frameworks supporting global Accounting teams and BI's across our organization. You will lead a specific Accounting workstream and guide Accountants on technical solutions and direction, and partner with junior BI team members guiding their technical development. You will set technical direction for how AI and spec-driven development are applied to accounting automation at scale, while mentoring engineers and upholding high engineering standards through design and code reviews.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead an Accounting workstream, partnering with non-technical partners to understand their processes and metrics, lead the BI direction of the team, and deliver results.
• Define the BI and AI development strategy, driving adoption of GenAI solutions, LLMs, and spec-driven development to accelerate delivery without sacrificing quality or controllership.
• Design and build reusable frameworks — for both BI/ETL driven solutions and GenAI solutions such as semantic matching, anomaly detection, etc. — that close gaps across existing applications and scale to all Accounting BIEs.
• Own the workstream BI Python code base and end-to-end automation frameworks, integrating AWS, Cloud tech and/or external data services to source data, perform calculations, post journal entries to the Oracle General Ledger, and surface anomalies to global Accountants.
• Lead the organization's design and code reviews, and mentor BIEs to raise engineering standards and enable junior engineers to deliver complex automations.
• Partner with the Accounting Data Engineering, Fintech Software Development Managers, and Technical Product Managers to align the BI portfolio to upstream roadmaps and process migrations.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional or military experience
• 5+ years of processing large, multi-dimensional datasets from multiple sources experience
• 5+ years of as a Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, or a related occupation experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field
• Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
• Experience with AWS technologies
• Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in academic or professional settings

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
• Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
• Experience leading and influencing the data or BI strategy of your team or organization
• Experience developing, deploying and managing AI products at scale

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
