Job summary

Neurocrine Biosciences seeks a senior BD professional to identify, evaluate and negotiate licensing opportunities and partnerships across neuroscience assets. You will lead cross‑functional teams, perform due diligence, and build compelling business cases to expand our pipeline.

The role requires a strong scientific and financial background, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple transactions with high accuracy and urgency in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in life sciences, finance, or business with 8+ years in business development or related fields.
  • Experience evaluating preclinical and clinical assets and platforms across multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Strong project and deal‑making skills; ability to manage multiple timelines and cross‑functional teams.

About the Role

Supports Business Development activities through identification, scientific evaluation, and analysis of potential licensing opportunities and partnerships in the biopharmaceutical space. Conducts comprehensive search and evaluation activities and generates competitive landscapes focused on identifying promising therapeutic assets and technologies to expand the company's pipeline. Performs detailed scientific assessment of opportunities, including analysis of mechanism of action, preclinical/clinical data, and therapeutic/market potential. Maintains deep scientific understanding of current and future trends in therapeutic innovations, with particular focus on emerging technologies and treatment modalities. Participates in due diligence activities, including review of scientific documentation and coordination with subject matter experts. Contributes to the development of business cases and leads deal execution processes with a strong demonstration of business, IP, and legal comprehension. Assists in the preparation of proposals, negotiations, and presentations for licensing opportunities, working cross‑functionally with internal teams to advance business development objectives.

Your Contributions
  • Manages projects regarding business development transactions anywhere from early development through commercialization
  • Leads cross‑functional internal and external project teams and meet pre-defined objectives and timelines
  • Leads and assists with due diligence on potential business development opportunities, including product and technology assessment
  • Leads valuation work on potential business development opportunities
  • Monitors industry trends, companies, technologies and therapeutic areas of relevance to the Company
  • Partners closely with the Research and Development teams to determine priority and focus of external opportunities
  • Coordinates both internal and external diligence team meetings
  • Develops and reviews contracts in close collaboration with Legal, IP, and Finance teams
  • Coordinates the Company’s efforts at partnering conferences
  • Outreaches to potential collaborators, including academic centers and prospective corporate partners
  • Assists with background research on topics such as novel targets, therapeutic areas, companies, and competitive landscapes
  • Works with vendors, investment banks or other third‑party consultants assisting Neurocrine on BD opportunities
  • Creates and reviews BD presentations
  • Assists in the building and maintenance of the BD team infrastructure
  • Ensures all interactions are compliant with internal policies, governmental regulations and best practices
  • Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • BS/BA degree in life sciences, finance, business or similar field and 8+ years of business development, venture capital, investment research, investment banking, corporate development or related experience; 2+ years of biotechnology/pharmaceutical in scientific based role preferred OR Master's degree in scientific field or MBA and 6+ years of similar experience noted above OR PhD in scientific field and 4+ years of similar experience noted above
  • Demonstrated knowledge of search and evaluation with preclinical and clinical stage assets and platforms in Neurology/Immunology/Endocrinology/Psychiatry across therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to, small molecules, antibodies, peptides, oligonucleotides, gene therapy
  • Demonstrated functional expertise working in a Biotech/Pharma industry R&D setting with some experience in a business development, venture capital, investment research, investment banking, and/or corporate development function
  • Strong scientific acumen to identify key differentiation factors of potential partner programs/platforms and ability to take meticulous notes
  • Strong understanding of biotechnology/pharmaceutical competitive landscape
  • Strong knowledge of biopharmaceutical technologies, physical and life sciences, product development, and regulatory approval processes
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines across a variety of projects/programs, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
  • Excellent project management, strong project leadership skills
  • Apply strong demonstration of business, IP, and legal comprehension to deal‑making
  • Ability to prioritize and multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong sense of urgency, accuracy, and follow‑through
  • Strong analytical and creative problem‑solving skills
  • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels; excellent written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions

Benefits
  • Annual base salary $158,100.00-$216,000.00
  • Annual bonus with a target of 30% of the earned base salary
