Job summary

Blue Origin LLC seeks a Sr. Avionics Test Engineer for the Lunar Core Components team. You will own test scope for avionics products, develop and execute test plans, and support environmental campaigns across multiple vehicles and NASA interfaces.

You will collaborate with Responsible Engineers to ensure performance, fault tolerance, and safety objectives, contributing to test infrastructure and hardware characterization in a safety‑critical aerospace environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent technical field.
• 2–3+ years hands-on testing/integration of electronic systems.
• Strong grasp of electronics and circuit fundamentals.
• Experience creating and executing test plans in a structured engineering environment.
• Familiarity with avionics products: Flight Computers, Remote IO, Embedded Controllers, EPS, Optical/RF systems.
• Experience with environmental acceptance/qualification tests (thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC).
• Ability to read schematics, ICDs and requirements documents.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, and execute test plans and procedures for various test campaigns.
• Support bench bring-up and hardware characterization with the design team.
• Support environmental test campaigns including planning, execution, and anomaly resolution.
• Drive verification closure by mapping test evidence to requirements.

• Contribute to test infrastructure including equipment selection and GSE needs.
• Communicate status, risks, and results; participate in technical reviews.

Job description

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As a Sr. Avionics Test Engineer on the Lunar Core Components team, you will support multiple products across multiple vehicles supporting human lunar missions.
You will partner directly with Responsible Engineers (REs) to define test strategies, develop test plans and procedures, and execute development, risk reduction, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns. You will work within a multi-disciplinary test team and interface with vehicle teams, NASA, and National Team Partners to ensure avionics products meet performance, fault tolerance, and safety objectives. The Avionics & RF Products you may support include: Flight Computers, Embedded Controllers, Electrical Power Systems, Lidar Systems, Monitor / Displays, Camera Systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the test scope for one or more Avionics products as a test engineer, partnering with the RE to understand requirements, design intent, interfaces, and fault‑tolerant behavior
• Plan, write, and execute test plans and procedures for development, risk reduction, qualification, and acceptance testing
• Support bench bring‑up and early hardware characterization alongside the design team
• Support environmental test campaigns (thermal‑vacuum, vibration, EMI/EMC) including test planning, procedure execution, and anomaly resolution
• Drive verification closure: map test evidence to requirements, track open items, and ensure test reports meet qualification standards
• Identify, document, and track test anomalies through to resolution in coordination with the RE and broader team
• Contribute to test infrastructure development including test equipment selection, test bed design, and ground support equipment (GSE) needs
• Communicate test status, risks, and results clearly; support and lead technical reviews at appropriate milestones
• Apply lessons learned and best practices across the controller family to improve test efficiency and reuse

Minimum Qualifications

• B.S. or B.A. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field
• 2‑3+ years of hands‑on experience testing and/or integrating electronic systems or devices
• Sound understanding of electronics and electrical circuit fundamentals
• Experience developing and executing test plans and procedures in a structured engineering environment
• Familiarity with avionics products such as Flight Computers, Remote Input / Output, Embedded Controllers, Electrical Power Systems, Optical Systems and RF Systems
• Experience supporting environmental acceptance and qualification test campaigns (thermal, vibration, EMI/EMC, or equivalent)
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, ICDs, and requirements documents
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documenting test results and supporting technical reviews

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience testing space grade avionics.
• Experience with spacecraft or aerospace grade sensitive electronics.
• Experience working within a safety‑critical development environment (NASA, DO‑178, IEC 61508, or equivalent).
• Familiarity with space radiation effects and their implications for electronics testing and verification.
• Experience with HIL test environments and automated test frameworks.
• Basic project management skills: planning, milestone tracking, risk identification, and cross‑team coordination.
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC standards and test methods.

Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $156,802.00 - $219,522.45 Other site ranges may differ
