• Perform biologics platform techniques: bacterial/viral titration, ELISA, western blotting, SDS-PAGE, PCRs, immunofluorescence, Octet, and inactivation assays.
• Conduct Metabolite Analysis (Cedex, Nova2, Rebel) and Endotoxin testing.
• Scale up titration assays and DNA purification using available automation.
• Prepare reagents, media, buffers; manage lab supplies.
• Document results in ELNs, prepare reports and presentations.
• Collaborate with Analytical Sciences, Process Development, and Biological Research.

Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Biologics Process Development in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an analytical scientist at the Sr. Associate Scientist level.

Position Summary

Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Biologics Process Development in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an immunoassay and / or bioanalytical professional at the Sr. Associate Scientist level. This position will require a highly motivated individual who can effectively collaborate with other team members to advance projects. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for analytical testing activities supporting vaccine projects from early research through late-stage development and the preparation and testing of biological specimens utilized in the characterization of viral and bacterial antigens. The scientist will help execute testing protocols and will analyze scientific data. The scientist must be able to demonstrate good laboratory safety awareness, rigid aseptic technique, and notebook documentation. Self-motivation, ability to prioritize and work efficiently, have problem-solving skills, and an ability to work independently and within a group are essential.

Responsibilities

• Primary techniques for our biologics platform include bacterial and viral titration, ELISA, western blotting, SDS-Page, PCRs, immunofluorescence, Octet, and proof of inactivation assays.
• Perform Metabolite Analysis (e.g. Cedex, Nova2, Rebel) and Endotoxin testing.
• Conducting larger scale titration assays and DNA purification using available automation
• Prepare reagents, media and buffers as necessary. Order, maintain and stock lab supplies such as common assay reagents, laboratory consumables, gloves, cleaning agents, etc.
• Data entry, verification and handling, record keeping, in accordance with scientific protocol and applicable Standard Operating Procedures
• Perform analytical methods necessary for the characterization of active biological ingredients.
• Run basic analytical instruments such as plate readers, microplate washers and automated workstations.
• Document and communicate results in electronic laboratory notebooks, technical reports, oral / visual presentations.
• Collaborate with other scientists in a variety of technical disciplines including within Analytical Sciences, Process Development, and Biological Research.

Minimum Qualifications

• BS/MS in microbiology, immunology, virology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, veterinary sciences, animal science or other related discipline.
• Minimum of two years of industry experience.
• Academic or industry experience in a laboratory setting, specifically in bacterial or viral characterization.
• Excellent organizational and communication abilities (verbal and written English) with demonstrated skill in documentation, scientific writing (protocols, reports, journal articles) and presenting data and study summaries to project teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
• Skills and experience in experimental design, technical problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Must be able to work simultaneously on multiple projects.
• Experience working in a quality regulated environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
