Job summary

FITS LLC in Puerto Rico seeks an Environmental Health & Safety professional to lead EH&S integration for capital projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and risk reduction throughout design and construction.

You will coordinate PSM, PSSR, MOC activities, review drawings, and support shutdowns. Bilingual in Spanish and English is required; travel may be necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field is required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Shift availability for administrative shifts; second/third shifts may be required during shutdowns.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between site EH&S and capital project teams.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure EH&S requirements and risk reduction.
  • Review drawings and layouts for compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ASME, ANSI and local rules.
  • Coordinate and support PSSR, MOC, commissioning, and readiness assessments.
  • Utilize EH&S systems (Salesforce-based) to track reviews, actions, change controls, and documentation.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify EH&S compliance.
  • Collaborate with Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental programs to mitigate risks.
  • Provide guidance on machine safeguarding, hazardous energy control, and process safety.
  • Identify EH&S gaps and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs and equipment layouts.
  • Support during shutdowns/startups; may require after-hours work.
  • Strong technical writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and EH&S management systems.
  • Travel could be required based on project needs.

AS A PIECE OF FITS, YOU WILL: (The day-to-day on the job)
  • Serve as the primary liaison between site EH&S and capital project teams.
  • Participate in project design reviews and planning meetings to ensure EH&S requirements, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction measures are incorporated into project scope and execution.
  • Review engineering designs, layouts, equipment specifications, and construction activities for compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ASME, ANSI, and other local regulatory requirements, as applicable.
  • Coordinate and support Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSRs), Management of Change (MOC) activities, commissioning activities, and operational readiness assessments.
  • Utilize clients'EH&S systems and digital tools (e.g., Salesforce-based EH&S platforms) to track project reviews, action items, change controls, and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct field oversight and inspections to verify compliance with EH&S requirements.
  • Collaborate with Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental, and other EHS programs, as applicable to the project, to proactively identify, evaluate, and resolve project-related EH&S risks and compliance concerns in partnership with Facilities, Engineering, and Operations Teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations related to machine safeguarding, hazardous energy control, pressure systems, hazardous/compressed gases, chemical safety, and process safety, as applicable.
  • Identify EH&S gaps, recommend corrective actions, and track closure of findings to completion
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and technical specifications preferred.
  • Support during shutdowns, startups, and other project-related activities outside of normal working hoursmay be required.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other electronic EH&S management systems.
  • Travel could be required based on the project’s needs.
