A Day in the Life of the Senior Android Developer

In this hands-on engineering role, you’ll take ownership of key features for our client’s native Android app—driving development from architecture to deployment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, backend, QA, and DevOps to build fast, accessible, and secure mobile experiences that support millions of users across healthcare and government services.

Responsibilities include:

• Build and maintain Android features using Kotlin, following Google-recommended architecture patterns and Material Design
• Write and contribute to technical design documents and mobile API/data models
• Integrate RESTful APIs with error handling, offline caching (SqlDelight), and background sync
• Implement and maintain automated test suites (UI, snapshot, and unit tests)
• Drive CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, managing staged rollouts and versioning
• Optimize app performance, reliability, and observability using tools like Firebase, Sentry, and Play Console
• Ensure app security with secure storage, encryption, and certificate pinning (Android Keystore, SQLCipher)
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, FedRAMP, and SOC-2
• Collaborate with backend engineers on API contracts and SLAs
• Participate in code reviews, design critiques, and pair programming
• Evaluate and integrate AI-driven tools and keep up with Android ecosystem updates (Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Coroutines, etc.)

Requirements and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional Android development experience using Kotlin
• Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, offline caching, and synchronization
• Experience with Android architecture best practices and modularization strategies
• Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and test automation frameworks
• Understanding of mobile security principles; experience with compliance requirements a plus (HIPAA, SOC-2, etc.)
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Bonus: Experience with Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Flow, Coroutines, Firebase, Play Store release management, and accessibility/internationalization
• Bonus: Prior experience building mobile solutions for healthcare or government applications
