Job description

OUR TEAM:

We are a small, mixed-skill team of developers, analysts, and data specialists responsible for Promega's enterprise analytics platform — spanning Power BI reporting, data integration, and a modern cloud-based data platform built on Azure Databricks. We work directly with business stakeholders across the company to turn complex data into decisions, and we are currently expanding into AI-powered conversational analytics. The team operates with a high degree of ownership and autonomy — this is not a place where you wait to be told what to do.

YOUR ROLE:

You will own the design and delivery of Power BI solutions across assigned business domains — working directly with stakeholders to understand their needs, building models that are accurate and scalable, and making sure the people who use your reports actually trust them. At the same time, you will be a key contributor to our Conversational Analytics initiative, helping business users query data in natural language through AI-powered interfaces built on top of our semantic layer. This is not a support role or a report factory — you will have real influence over how analytics gets built and adopted at a global life sciences company, and the work you deliver will be visible at many levels of the organization.

JOB OBJECTIVE:

As a Sr AI Analytics Developer, you will design and deliver data models, Power BI reports, dashboards, and conversational analytics solutions that support Promega's global business requirements. You will independently own the delivery of reporting solutions in your assigned business domains — partnering directly with stakeholders, applying team standards, mentoring less experienced developers, and contributing to the adoption of emerging AI-powered analytics capabilities, including natural language interfaces to business data. This role sits at the intersection of traditional BI development and next-generation conversational analytics.

CORE DUTIES:
  • Power BI & Reporting Development: Design and deliver reports, dashboards, and semantic models in Power BI. Build solutions that span a broad spectrum of user needs — from executive-level summary views to self-service exploration for advanced users. Ensure models are performant, governed, and scalable.
  • Conversational Analytics Development: Design, build, and maintain conversational analytics interfaces that allow business users to query data in natural language. Work with LLM-based tooling (such as Claude) and Power BI semantic layer integrations to deliver AI-powered Q&A experiences. Evaluate and recommend emerging tools in this space.
  • Requirements Definition: Conduct requirements gathering with business stakeholders to define reporting needs, KPIs, and conversational query use cases. Translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical specifications, engaging team leadership when scope spans multiple teams or systems.
  • Data Modeling: Create and maintain underlying data models using Kimball dimensional design principles or equivalent. Understand source system structures (SAP, CRM) well enough to design accurate, trustworthy models.
  • Training & Enablement: Train business users on Power BI and conversational analytics tools. Develop training materials in written and video format. Promote self-sufficiency and drive adoption, particularly among non-technical Finance and Operations users.
  • Mentorship & Standards: Mentor less experienced developers through pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing. Apply and help refine team standards for both traditional BI and AI-augmented analytics development.
  • Decision Support: Use knowledge of the data to support business leaders in making key decisions. Serve as a trusted advisor, not just a report builder.
  • Incident Monitoring: Monitor, communicate, and resolve data and reporting incidents in a timely manner. Own quality across the reports and models you deliver.
  • Process & Tool Improvement: Proactively identify and implement process improvements within your areas of ownership. Evaluate new reporting and analytics tools, including AI-assisted development capabilities, and recommend adoption to the team.
  • Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity, and respect for others.
  • Embraces and incorporates Promega's 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.
  • Understands and complies with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree in a data-related field (Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or equivalent) or proven work experience that ensures you are ready to be successful in this role.
  • 5-7 years of experience in business analytics, BI development, or data engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering production-grade Power BI solutions, including complex DAX, semantic model design, and deployment pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with conversational analytics, natural language querying, or LLM-based data interfaces (e.g., Claude, Copilot for Power BI, Azure OpenAI, Power BI, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, deployment, workspace management.)
    • Strong SQL skills for data querying, transformation, and analysis.
    • Familiarity with lakehouse or cloud data platform patterns (Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, or equivalent).
    • Experience integrating LLM or AI tools into analytics workflows — whether through APIs, connectors, or prompt engineering.
    • Understanding of dimensional modeling (Kimball or equivalent).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and build trust with business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical thinking. Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and evolving business needs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate your own delivery work across teams without a dedicated project manager.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in a data-related field (Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Azure OpenAI Service, LangChain, or semantic kernel frameworks.
  • Familiarity with S/4HANA or SAP ECC data structures and reporting patterns.
  • Experience with Python for data transformation, API integration, or AI pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of other Power Platform tools (Power Apps, Power Automate).
  • Relevant experience in the Life Sciences industry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to remain stationary at a computer workstation for several hours at a time.
  • Ability to use a computer and standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
