Job summary

The AES Corporation in the United States is seeking a Project Cost Control Analyst to support the financial execution of capital projects across development and construction.

This role ensures budgets are tracked, variances analyzed, and financial controls maintained using SAP Investment Management and SAP Funds Management, collaborating with project managers, developers, and finance leadership to deliver projects on time and on budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field.
• 2–4 years in FP&A, Cost Control, or BI, energy or infrastructure preferred.
• Proficient in SAP Investment Management and SAP Funds Management.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail; advanced Excel.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Publish and maintain project budgets and forecasts with project managers.
• Monitor CapEx and OpEx against approved budgets.
• Perform monthly variance analysis and insights on cost drivers.
• Support budget reallocation, increases, and contingency drawdowns with controls.
• Maintain and reconcile actuals, commitments, and forecast data in SAP CBS/WBS.
• Assist monthly and quarterly close processes including accruals.
• Collaborate with Accounting & AP to improve data accuracy and reporting.

Thi s Project Cost Control Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the financial execution of capital projects across development and construction. This role ensures that project budgets are accurately tracked, variances are analyzed, and financial controls are maintained using SAP Investment Management and SAP Funds Management. The analyst will collaborate closely with project managers, developers, and finance leadership to ensure cost transparency and accountability to deliver projects on time and on budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with project managers to publish and maintain project budgets and forecasts.
• Monitor and report on capital expenditures ( CapEx ) and operational expenditures ( OpEx ) against approved budgets.
• Perform monthly variance analysis and provide insights on cost drivers and trends.
• Support the process of budget reallocation, budget increase, and contingency drawdown requests while ensuring compliance with internal controls and board approval thresholds .
• Maintain and reconcile project actual, commitment and forecast data in SAP within our cost breakdown structure (CBS/WBS).
• Assist in the monthly and quarterly financial close processes, including accruals and reporting deliverables.
• Collaborate with Accounting & AP to improve data accuracy and reporting processes .
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of cost control processes and tools, including Power BI dashboards and SAP enhancements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance , Accounting, Engineering, or related field.
• 2-4 years of experience in FP&A, Cost Control, or Business Intelligence , preferably in the energy or infrastructure sector.
• Proficiency in SAP or similarly complex ERP tool ( SAP Investment Management and SAP Funds Management modules preferred).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel user required .
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work cross-functionally.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $87,000 and $104,550/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
