Job summary

Quantinuum is seeking a Sr. Advanced Experimental Physicist (AMO) for our Albuquerque, NM location to advance utility-scale trapped-ion quantum computing. You will work independently and with a team to design, build, and operate ion-trapping systems and photonics infrastructure.

Ideal candidates have a PhD and 5+ years in trapped-ion research, plus 3+ years programming control systems for data collection. The role includes collaboration across locations and travel about 10% for project needs.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. completed prior to starting.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with trapped-ion systems (PhD inclusive).
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience programming control systems for data collection and analysis (PhD inclusive).
  • Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, green card, asylum or refugee status).
  • Candidates must not be a PRC or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen.

Sr. Advanced Physicist (AMO) - 901

We are seeking a Sr. Advanced Experimental Physicist (AMO) for our Albuquerque, NM location having experience with trapped ion systems to contribute to our cutting-edge R&D efforts aimed at creating a utility-scale trapped-ion quantum computer. You will work individually and in collaboration with a team of scientists and engineers across multiple Quantinuum locations. You should be comfortable achieving results both independently and in close collaboration with a team.

All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test.

Key responsibilities:
  • Build, operate, and maintain trapped ion systems and related support infrastructure that employee both free-space optics and integrated photonics for light delivery
  • Design experiments, collect and analyze data, and present results to a variety of stakeholders
  • Help build an ion-trapping lab from the ground up
  • Collaborate with other scientists, engineers, and fabrication experts to validate integrated photonic and trapped-ion technologies
  • Review scientific literature, identify and implement improvements in experimental workflow
  • Travel expectations of roughly 10%, dependent on business needs.
YOU MUST HAVE:
  • Ph.D. completed prior to starting
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with trapped-ion systems (PhD inclusive)
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience programming control systems for data collection and analysis (PhD inclusive)
  • Due to contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.

Compensation & Benefits:

The pay range for this role is $148,000 – $178,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate’s skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
