At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

About The Role

The Additive Manufacturing Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimizing AM systems to produce precision components, prototypes, and final products in support of Blue Origin's spaceflight programs. As part of Blue Origin Operations — encompassing Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance — you will play a hands‑on role translating engineering intent into additively manufactured polymer hardware, serving as a direct feedback loop between design and fabrication. We are a team of collaborators, doers, and problem‑solvers relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

Responsibilities
  • Safely operate and maintain AM equipment, including 3D printers
  • Set up, control, and optimize AM processes, including parameter settings, material loading, build environment configuration, and preventative maintenance
  • Remove completed builds and post-process parts by removing support structures using hand tools, grinders, chisels, and orbital sanders
  • Select, prepare, and recycle additive materials, including polymers (PLA, ABS, TPU, PETG), ensuring process compatibility
  • Read and interpret work instructions, blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to prepare and execute AM and hybrid machining builds
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process issues, machine malfunctions, and quality deviations to minimize downtime
  • Inspect, package, and ship completed orders while communicating non-conformances to the department supervisor
  • Support R&D initiatives and collaborate with engineers, designers, and quality teams to drive process optimization and cost reduction
  • Maintain a clean, FOD-controlled work area in compliance with 5S, safety, and PPE/PAPR requirements, supporting off-hours production when required
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience in an advanced technology operations environment, with 1-2 years in a similar AM role preferred
  • Proven employment stability with a continuous work history of 2+ years with a previous employer
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing polymers such as PLA, ABS, TPU, and PETG
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Windows, and iOS devices, with the ability to maintain accurate production records
  • Experience reading work orders, part drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation with strong attention to detail
  • Experience with handheld tools (grinders, chisels, orbital sanders) and ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds
  • Self‑motivated, high-energy, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a relevant technical discipline (Mechanical, Manufacturing Technology, Electromechanical, Optics, Lasers, Machining, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate complex equipment including robotics, precision equipment, and/or metallic AM machines
  • Hands‑on experience with CAD design (Creo), support design (Magics), simulation packages (MSC, ANSYS), and manufacturing execution software (Streamics, Infor)
  • Exposure to and understanding of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) or similar additive manufacturing technologies
Physical Requirements

This position requires physical mobility including climbing stairs, ladders, and lift devices, extended periods of standing, and covering significant distances between work centers. Candidates must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, support active production floor operations onsite in Kent, and be available for off-hours shifts when required.
