The Greenbrier Companies, a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of freight rail equipment, seeks a Senior Accountant to manage multi-plant financial close, journal entries, and GL reconciliations. You will support month-end, year-end close, and provide analyses for management decisions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA/CMA strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years progressive experience in manufacturing accounting/finance, with leadership or team management.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing finance.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial systems/ERP (e.g., MS Dynamics 365, OneStream).
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Responsibilities

Summary

The Senior Accountant performs financial and accounting activities for multiple plant sites. This position prepares and analyzes financial statements, maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, prepares journal entries, and supports month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate financial reporting. The Senior Accountant also ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards and performs financial analysis to support business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the following essential duties. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Assist the monthly financial close process, including preparation, review and approval of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal control requirements, and company accounting policies.
  • Assist with budgeting activities, including operating budgets, capital budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Develop, track, and communicate key financial and operational performance metrics to support informed decision-making.
  • Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries, with reconciliation of payroll accounts, accrued compensation and employee benefit balances.
  • Lead intercompany accounting activities, including reconciliations and account analysis, investigating and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates across finance and operations supporting continuous improvement and providing analysis that informs plant performance and strategic decisions.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and driving resolution of audit findings and recommendations.
  • Perform ad hoc reports and additional accounting duties, as needed, to support the team
  • A proven ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, and the ability to interact confidently with leadership and others across the Company
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required; CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in manufacturing accounting and finance, including leadership or management of teams.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing finance.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365, OneStream, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and resource allocation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to partner effectively with plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
