Job summary

Berkley Southeast seeks a Sr. Accountant in Meridian, MS to maintain and process General Ledger transactions for an insurance portfolio. The role covers journal entries, variances, reconciliations, and reporting across several areas including intercompany activity and depreciation.

Requirements include a 4-year degree in accounting or business, 5 years in insurance accounting, and proficiency with Word, Excel, and AP/GL systems. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including cash activity and inter-company allocations.
• Prepare and distribute monthly budget variance report.
• Prepare and reconcile reinsurance accounting entries for premiums and losses.
• Maintain fixed asset system and post monthly depreciation expense.
• Perform monthly bank, intercompany, and other account reconciliations.
• Provide support for statistical reporting requests as required.
• Produce and distribute monthly reports/reconciliations including storm and LAE summaries.
• Assist in processing and analysis of agent incentive contracts and profit sharing payments.
• Assist in the annual budgeting process.
• Assist in Sarbanes-Oxley testing.
• Administer unclaimed property system and reporting to state agencies.

Responsibilities

The Sr. Accountant will perform accounting tasks related to the efficient maintenance and processing of General Ledger transactions.

Key functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare and post assigned monthly journal entries, including Cash activity, direct/assumed/ceded premiums/losses, expense accruals, inter-company expenses, expense allocations, etc.


• Prepare and distribute monthly budget variance report.


• Prepare and reconcile reinsurance accounting entries and accounts for premiums and loss activity


• Maintain fixed asset system and post monthly depreciation expense.


• Perform monthly bank, intercompany, and other account reconciliations


• Provide support for statistical reporting requests as required


• Produce, analyze and distribute various monthly reports/recons, including storm report, LAE summary report, accrual report, investments allocations, etc.


• Assist in processing and analysis of agent incentive contracts and agent profit sharing payments.


• Assist in the annual budgeting process.


• Assist in Sarbanes-Oxley testing.

• Complete other duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO

• Base Salary Range: $65,000-$120,000
