Job summary

Booz Allen Hamilton in Cary, NC is seeking a Squad Lead and Engineering Manager to lead one or more engineering squads, focusing on people leadership, predictable delivery, and transparent communication.

You will maintain engineering artifacts, dashboards, and delivery practices, partnering with product management and go-to-market to build a high-performing team while balancing architecture decisions with delivery needs.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in software engineering
2+ years in an engineering leadership role such as engineering manager, squad lead, or team lead
Experience leading an engineering team through planning, execution, delivery, and operational support
Experience with Agile delivery practices, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe
Experience creating and maintaining delivery visibility through status reporting, planning artifacts, dashboards, metrics, and regular execution cadences
Ability to identify and communicate delivery risks, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly to product, engineering, and leadership audiences
Bachelor's degree in CS or Engineering

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, mentor, and grow engineers while building a high-performing, collaborative squad
Own squad-level execution, ensuring work is clearly defined, prioritized, tracked, and communicated in each sprint
Establish and maintain engineering artifacts including sprint plans, delivery plans, key decisions, risks, dependencies, and milestones
Provide timely, accurate, and transparent status reporting including burndown, milestone progress, and delivery forecasts
Facilitate sprint reviews, feature reviews, and milestone readiness discussions to drive launch readiness
Identify risks and work with product and tech leadership to resolve trade-offs
Maintain evidence of feature and go-live readiness and communicate delivery confidence changes
Monitor squad health including availability, uptime, incidents, code quality, test coverage, scalability, security, and cost
Ensure safe deployment practices, on-call rotations, incident response, and operational processes
Support secure-by-design practices, compliance, threat modeling, and coordination before production changes
Partner with product management on roadmap feasibility, prioritization, sequencing, experimentation, and delivery trade-offs
Work with tech leads and system architects to identify risks, dependencies, and architecture considerations
Escalate significant delivery, staffing, technical, or operational risks with context and actions
Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and operating rhythms
