Job summary

Phaxis, on behalf of a growing hedge fund based in New York, is seeking an SQL DBA / Developer to help build and optimize the firm's next-generation data platform. Strong emphasis on secure, high-performance systems and solving complex database challenges.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in financial environments with MSSQL, and development experience across SQL, PowerShell, and Python. You will work across Linux/Windows, IaC tooling, and diverse data stores to design scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience, ideally within the financial sector (equity, credit, derivatives trading environments).
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL).
• Development experience across multiple languages (SQL, PowerShell, Python) for solving complex problems and building automation.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and scripting for repeatable deployments.
• Database performance tuning and optimization: ability to analyze execution plans, manage indexing strategies, and troubleshoot query bottlenecks.
• Database design and modelling fundamentals: normalization, constraints, transactions, and schema versioning.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and optimize the firm’s data platform components for performance, security and resilience.
• Collaborate with engineering and quantitative teams to implement robust data pipelines and tooling.
• Troubleshoot and tune complex SQL workloads across multiple databases and environments.

They are looking for a motivated technologist who thrives on solving complex challenges and designing resilient, secure, and high-performance systems. You will play a key role in shaping the firm's next-generation data platform.

Skills:

• 3+ years of professional experience, ideally within the financial sector (equity, credit, derivatives trading environments)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL)
• Development experience across multiple languages (SQL, PowerShell, Python) for solving complex problems and building automation
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and scripting for repeatable deployments
