Job summary

Magna Powertrain is seeking a Supplier Quality Development Engineer - Seals to oversee rubber, plastic, or metal sealing components. You will ensure flawless launches for North American programs, audit suppliers, and drive improvements across KMIs while supporting manufacturing locations.

Requires 3–10 years in supplier quality and 6–10 years in powdered metal, plus ISO/TS16949 and AIAG core tools. Travel 50–80% domestically and internationally is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required; mechanical/industrial/electrical preferred.
  • 3–10 years in Supplier Quality Development.
  • 6–10 years in Powdered Metal experience.
  • 2–4 years in plant operations.
  • ISO/TS16949 proficiency.
  • AIAG core tools: PPAP, APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, MSA, SPC.
  • Manufacturing experience in molding, stamping, assembly, rubber extrusions, plating.
  • Strong communication, self-motivation and drive for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve all quality documentation before supplier release.
  • Audit suppliers (capability, run-at-rate, audits) and take corrective actions.
  • Monitor supplier performance and develop action plans to improve KPIs.
  • Identify supplier improvements and ensure effective actions are taken.
  • Issue supplier PCAPs and 8D's and drive closure.
  • Manage cost recovery with suppliers and coordinate change requests.
  • Support manufacturing locations on supplier-related performance issues.
  • Conduct supplier quality training on SRM, PPAP, and related processes.

Job Responsibilities:

Mission of the Position: Supplier Quality Development Engineer - Seals (SQDE Seals) focuses on rubber, plastic, or metal sealing components to prevent leakage and failures. Ensures process standardization with respect to launch programs by supporting SQDE projects principally in Magna Powertrain (MPT) North America (NA). The individual will ensure compliance while focusing on flawless launch initiatives for MPT NA Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and approval of all quality documentation before supplier release.
  • Conduct various supplier-related audits on potential, new and current suppliers to Magna Powertrain: Supplier Capability Assessments, Run-at-Rates, Manufacturing Capability Audits, Control Plan Audits, etc., and take necessary actions as required.
  • Monitor supplier performance (Incidents, PPM's, COPQ) and develop / implement effective action plans to improve poor performing suppliers.
  • Ability to identify supplier improvements (process, quality system, etc.) and ensure effective actions are taken to improve KMIs.
  • Issue supplier performance PC's and follow through to completion.
  • Disposition supplier PPAP's and 8D's (5-Why).
  • Manage Cost Recovery process with suppliers.
  • Coordinate Supplier Change Requests.
  • Support manufacturing locations on supplier related performance issues (conduct 8D verification, review containment process).
  • Conduct supplier quality procedure / process type training and awareness activities with suppliers (SRM, PPAP, etc.).
  • Support new program launches, supplier localization, resourcing projects, etc.
  • Practice and maintain integrity while following Magna's Charter and Constitution.
  • Follow Magna's Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF).
  • Drive the development of new technologies to improve quality, efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure duties of self are performed in a safe manner.
Health & Safety responsibilities:
  • Understand applicable Environmental, Health & Safety policies and procedures in the workplace.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses, property damage immediately.
  • Follow safety rules.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's Degree Required.
  2. Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical) preferred.
  3. Self-motivated, drives for improvement, strong communication skills.
  4. 3 - 10 years of experience in Supplier Quality Development
  5. 6 - 10 years of experience in Powdered Metal
  6. 2 - 4 years of experience in Plant Operations
  7. Experience in the following commodities would be a plus (Aluminum Castings, Iron Castings, Forgings, Electronics, Stampings, Power Metal, Fasteners, Injection Molding, Seals)
  8. Experience in Metallurgical/Metals background
  9. Proficient in ISO/TS16949
  10. Proficient in problem solving (8D, 5-Why, Drill Deep and Wide, Shainan, Six Sigma, etc.)
  11. Manufacturing experience in molding, stamping, assembly, rubber extrusions, plating
  12. Proficient in AIAG core tools: PPAP, APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, MSA and SPC
  13. Proficient in Word / Excel / PowerPoint
  14. Physical requirements include office-based work like standing, sitting, and using a computer, but also involve physical activity such as walking, lifting, crouching, and climbing to conduct audits and assess supplier facilities, requiring stamina, visual acuity, and manual dexterity.
Work Environment:
  • Ability to travel (approximately 50-80% domestic and international), valid Passport.
  • While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
