Job summary

EPRI is seeking a Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Student Engineer to assist with testing software for usability and documenting errors. This part-time role is 20 hours per week, based at the California Home Office, Charlotte, NC.

The ideal candidate is a current software engineering student who can work under pressure, communicates effectively, and can learn quickly. Knowledge of internet technologies and software security is a plus.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in software engineering or related field.
• Demonstrates initiative and ability to work under tight schedules.
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
• Good knowledge of internet technologies and software security.
• Ability to learn quickly and troubleshoot problems.

Responsibilities

• Test EPRI software on PC platforms (Windows/Linux) and mobile (iOS/Android).
• Document results and report errors; maintain testing records.
• Use JIRA, Confluence, and ADO to manage tests and logs.
• Coordinate with project managers and developers during testing.
• Enter data into databases (bugs, test cases, etc.) and maintain virtual tests.

Job Summary and Description:

EPRI is looking for a Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Student Engineer to assist with testing software for usability and writing reports documenting errors. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Test EPRI software products on PC platforms (Windows and LINUX), Apple/Android mobile platforms

• Utilize JIRA, Confluence, Azure DevOps (ADO); Microsoft Office 365; Microsoft Windows 10; Apple iOS and Android

• Work and communicate with EPRI Project Managers and developers

• Perform data entry into databases which could include: source code, bugs, etc.

• Maintain virtual testing machines

Education:

• Must be a current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in software engineering or a related field
  

The Ideal Candidate:

• Exhibits high initiative

• Works well under pressure / able to handle short time schedules

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

• Good knowledge of internet technologies and software security

• Strong learning and troubleshooting aptitude

• The following skills are a plus:

• Installation of hardware

• Database management

• Project management

• Software development process

• Good grasp of at least one programming language

The hourly rate range for Student positions are:

• Undergraduate: $16-29 per hour

• Masters: $27-33 per hour

• Ph.D: $31-36 per hour

These ranges are an estimate, and the actual hourly rate may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The hourly rate may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.

For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses.

EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee’s I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
