Job summary

SKF Sumter is seeking an SPS Process Engineer to design, implement, and sustain operational excellence initiatives across Sumter manufacturing facilities. You will provide engineering leadership and coaching on the manufacturing floor to eliminate waste, improve process capability, and maximize throughput while aligning with SKF BE goals.

Responsibilities include deploying site-wide 5S and visual management, leading Kaizen events, training SMEs in SPS toolbox, and conducting governance audits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a closely related engineering field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive engineering experience in manufacturing or precision metal environments.
  • Deep practical application of lean tools (5S, Daily Management, Kanban, Standard Work, TPM/Autonomous Maintenance, and Problem Solving).
  • High proficiency in data analytics and software tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and deploy site-wide 5S and visual management to transform culture and ensure audit readiness.
  • Analyze manufacturing data to identify bottlenecks and lead cross-functional Kaizen events addressing safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Drive SPS stability tools in the factory (5S, Visual Factory, Daily Management, Defined Work, Maintenance Excellence, Lean Material Flow).

Job description

Salary Range: $ 85,000.00 to $ 95,000.00

Position Summary

The SPS Process Engineer designs, implements, and sustains operational excellence initiatives across Sumter manufacturing facilities. This role provides high-impact engineering leadership, coaching, and analytical support on the manufacturing floor to eliminate waste, improve process capabilities, and maximize throughput. Serving as a key passionate strategic bridge between manufacturing channels, plant support areas, and corporate leadership, the Engineer actively steers the sites towards it long-term SKF BE goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and deploy robust site-wide 5S and visual management systems to systematically transform operational culture and maintain audit readiness. Drives 5S in the Sumter facilities assisting all teams in implementing driving compliance to 5S standards, conducting 5S audits, develop 5S/visual management media to assist in changing the factory culture.
  • Analyses manufacturing data, identifies process bottlenecks, and leads cross functional Kaizen events to address Safety, quality, Costs and Delivery issues
  • Drives and implements SPS stability tools in the factory as assigned by manager - 5S, Visual factory, Daily Management, Employee Training, Defined Work, Resetting, Maintenance Excellence and Lean Material Flow.
Develop Organizational Capabilities
  • Design curriculum and lead technical Lean/SPS training programs across all plant levels, mentoring employees to cultivate a deep roster of site Subject Matter Experts (SME).
  • Organize and conduct Lean/SPS training for employees at all levels assigned by manager.
  • Assist in training local SME’s in all SPS toolbox activities (5S, DM, SW, MF, ME, AM, etc.)
Conducts Strategic Governance Audits
  • Establish and execute advanced manufacturing compliance audits, including Gemba walks, Process Layered Audits (PLA) and Autonomous Maintenance compliance reviews.
  • Provides technical support to assigned functional areas to implement/drive the SPS tools – 5S, Visual Factory, Daily management, SMED, 5S, Defined work, Maintenance excellence, etc as assigned by Manager.
  • Act as an internal engineering consultant to assign functional areas, troubleshooting complex technical constraints with structured problem-solving methodologies (A3,8D, Root Cause Analysis)
  • Acts as a champion for lean improvement in the company and passionately drive the SPS culture change.
  • Assists in any other SPS activities assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience Required
Education
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) from an accredited institution and or Technical Engineer with Industrial, Mechanical and/or Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field.
Experience
  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive engineering experience directly within a manufacturing or precision metal environment. Direct Experience with Lean Manufacturing.
Technical Mastery
  • Deep practical application history of foundational lean tools/methodologies (e.g. Daily Management, Define Work, 5S, Kanban, Standard Work, Maintenance Excellence Total Productive Maintenance/Autonomous Maintenance, and Problem Solving).
System Literacy
  • High proficiency in data analytics and software tools, specifically Microsoft Suite, power BI and enterprise level production projects software (MRRP, ERP, MES, PowerPPM, etc)
  • Outstanding interpersonal and leadership traits with a proven record of influencing cross functional teams without direct authority; highly analytical mindset capable of operating with substantial decision-making latitude and corporate accountability. Self-starter with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and in developing and working with a cross-functional team.
