Job summary

Fortis Fire & Safety Inc. in Clearwater, FL is hiring Fire Sprinkler Apprentices to assist with installation and modification of wet, dry, pre‑action, and deluge sprinkler systems, following NFPA standards and local codes.

Apprentices enroll in the Fire Sprinkler Apprentice Program, attend ABC apprentice school about two evenings per week (≈3 hours each), with tuition and related expenses covered by Piper Fire. Wage increases occur at set intervals throughout the program.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Ability to meet driving eligibility and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operate hand and power tools used in the trade.

• Maintain driving eligibility and driving record.

Job Summary:

Piper Fire Protection’s Clearwater, FL branch is seeking motivated Fire Sprinkler Apprentices to join our team. This role involves assisting with the installation and modification of Wet, Dry, Pre-Action, and Deluge sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA standards and local codes.

All apprentices will enroll in the Fire Sprinkler Apprentice Program, which includes attending ABC apprentice school approximately two evenings per week during the academic year (about 3 hours per session). Piper Fire will cover tuition and related expenses. Successful participation requires meeting attendance and academic standards as outlined by the program. Wage increases will occur at designated intervals throughout the apprenticeship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with installation and modification of fire sprinkler systems under supervision
• Develop knowledge of fire sprinklers, fire pumps, backflows, and standpipes
• Follow verbal and written instructions and provide accurate documentation of work performed
• Demonstrate professional communication and customer service skills
• Operate hand and power tools common to the trade
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and adhere to company safety policies
• Maintain company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with fire sprinkler systems or similar mechanical systems
• Familiarity with hand tools and power tools commonly used in construction or mechanical work
• Basic understanding of plumbing or pipefitting principles
• Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints or technical drawings
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. Some roles may require travel.
