Qualifications
- Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.
- Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301-20-03 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
- Successful experience working with elementary school age children and adults.
- Technological qualifications:
- Accurate keyboarding and data entry skills.
- Working knowledge of windows computer operating system.
- Working knowledge of internet applications or willingness to learn.
- Working knowledge of an automated library circulation/cataloging system.
- High school diploma.
- Formal or informal training as a media center library clerk preferred.
- Basic bookkeeping skills.
- Working knowledge Dewey Decimal Classification System.
- Ability to promote books, multi-media and literature to children and adults.
- Ability to lift and shelve books and materials up to 50 pounds.
- Demonstrates ability to locate and secure resource materials for classroom instruction.
- Prior related work experience required and above average evaluations.
- Willingness to participate in future training.
- Willingness to follow assigned work schedule.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and precautions for work environment.
- Experience working with a culturally diverse student population preferred.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education may find appropriate.
General Description
Responsible for and manages the daily logistics of operating the school library media center and promote literacy throughout the school community.
Essential Functions
- Maintain the library’s print and non-print collection.
- Maintain and keep up-to-date electronic card catalog by adding new entries and withdrawing entries as necessary.
- Assist students and staff with the location and use of materials and equipment.
- Communicate with staff, students, administrators and parents regarding the library program and invite their involvement.
- Compile collection reports and statistics for usage and circulation as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with staff to produce seasonal and topical centers and displays.
- Oversee student workers and parent volunteer workers.
- Complete a library inventory per district schedule.
- Compile and order recommended book, magazine, no-print and supply orders.
- Keep accurate records as directed by media center coordinator.
- Collaborate with parent clubs to coordinate book fairs.
- Assist with reading incentive programs (i.e. storytelling, birthday book club, contests, etc.)
- Participate in training opportunities to increase skills and knowledge.
- Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
- Helps maintain safety and security in the buildings.
- Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e., website, email, voice mail,etc.) daily.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
- Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
- Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (ie: PO 4122.01 and PO 4170)
- Accesses online verification system to clock-in and out of work each day.
- Reports absence or change in shift into online reporting system.
- Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.
- Maintains confidentiality of records.
- Conducts other duties related to the library as assigned by the library media specialist, building principal and/or designee.
Additional Working Conditions
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional interaction among unruly children.
- Repetitive hand motion (e.g. computer keyboard lifting and shelving books and materials).
- Frequent interruptions of duties by students, visitors, staff and/or telephone.
- Repetitive bending of knees and back and overhead arm reaching.
- Occasional heavy lifting.
