Individuals in charge of such activities must utilize sound educational principles and goals if athletics are to be a worthwhile part of the overall school program.

Head Coach Duties
  • Model the behaviors outlined in the National Federation Coaches Code of Ethics, especially those pertaining to sportsmanship.
  • Have full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline.
  • Implement CRLS Athletic Department policies and team rules. Be responsible for the information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Blue Book and the CRLS Student Handbook.
  • Supervise all assistant coaches both paid and volunteered.
  • Attend all Athletic Department and CRLS meetings that deal directly with the sport coached, including College Recruiting nights, Facilities and Fields meetings, and Athletic Awards meetings.
  • Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their particular sport.
  • Be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached. This includes supervision at all times of the weight room, locker room, and shower areas until the area is secured before and after practices and contests.
  • Scout future opponents.
  • Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm‑up and cool‑down procedures on a daily basis.
  • Make sure that the facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed in all areas.
  • Implement the game plan.
  • Review and assist in the processing of medical forms, parent consent forms, and eligibility/progress reports.
  • Give personal support to the entire CRLS staff, including Deans, Teachers, and the Friends of Cambridge Athletics.
  • Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of CRLS athletics; work with community members who are involved in youth sports to encourage the young women and young men to continue to participate in sports at the high school level.
  • Develop an approach to coaching which encourages outreach to the parents of the athletes and to other adults who care about the athletes (booster clubs are one part of this outreach).
  • Ensure your athletes are participating in the Seasonal FOCA Fundraising event.
  • Organize and instruct clinics for the youth teams and coaches of your individual sport.
  • Directly supervise squad members at home and away contests.
  • Supervise all team members that are transported by school buses. This includes making sure all team members travel to and from games and practices (when applicable) by school transportation.
  • Be responsible for the distribution and collection of the school's athletic equipment before, during, and after the coaching season and compile inventory.
  • Communicate and report game results and information to media and Athletic Director, and if applicable return official’s vouchers immediately following a contest.
  • Assist the Director of Athletics with security by not allowing keys to be handled by anyone but the coaching staff.
  • Have an awareness of school athletic awards policy and procedures; distribute athletic awards in accordance with school policy.
  • Assist student‑athletes in securing financial aid or college scholarships based on athletic ability.
  • Have current knowledge of NCAA and NAIA recruiting policies, regulations, and admission requirements.
  • Perform other duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Payments are submitted to the payroll office two times per season—first payment in the middle of the season and the second payment at the end of the season.
