Job summary

Berkshire Grey in Bedford, MA invites applications for its Spring 2027 Mechanical Engineering Co-op. You will join our product development team to apply mechanical expertise to create novel solutions that solve customer challenges.

As an onsite co-op January to June 2027, you will design parts and assemblies, transition concepts to robust designs, and develop production documentation while collaborating with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure correct assembly and functionality.

Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • Experience with SolidWorks (basic principles of design, sheet metal, FEA, etc.)
  • Experience prototyping and using tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, mills, lathes, etc.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be curious, eager, open to learning, and independent
  • Ability to spec motors, sensors, and off-the-shelf parts
  • Strong grasp of mechanical systems and mechanisms
  • DFM experience within sheet metal, weldments, machined parts

Responsibilities

  • Design parts and assemblies according to system/sub-system requirements.
  • Transform tested conceptual solutions into robust product designs in coordination with engineering, operations, the customer and contract manufacturers
  • Design and release components and systems using SolidWorks
  • Develop production and support documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and maintenance instructions.
  • Work with our suppliers, machinists, contract manufacturers, and shippers to guarantee that the right electromechanical system is assembled and functional in the right place at the right time.
  • Perform test and verification of prototype systems.
  • Bring prototype solutions to life with rapid prototyping tools including 3D printer, laser cutter, mill, etc.

Job description

Spring 2027 Mechanical Engineering Co-op

The Mechanical Engineering Co-op will work directly as a member of our product development team, applying their mechanical expertise to implement truly novel solutions to solve customer challenges. They will work closely with the other engineering disciplines to ensure a cohesive system design. Responsibilities will focus on testing, introducing new products into production, and supporting systems fielded at customer sites.

This role will be onsite at the Bedford, MA office. This position will run from approximately January to June 2027 (dates flexible).

Functions
  • Design parts and assemblies according to system/sub-system requirements.
