Tarrant Regional Water District is seeking a Cybersecurity Student Assistant for a part-time role up to 29 hours per week from January to May 2027. You will assist with SIEM usage, malware remediation, incident response, and documentation within the SOC.

Ideal candidates have less than one year of related experience, basic security knowledge, and strong communication skills. A BS in cybersecurity or related fields is preferred; a Texas driver’s license may be required.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Cybersecurity or related field is required or expected.
  • Less than one year of related experience and general computer literacy.
  • Introductory knowledge of security concepts (AV, Firewall).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Valid Texas driver's license may be required.

Job Description Summary: Salary: $18.43 - $27.65 per hour. This position is part-time working up to 29 hours per week from January - May 2027. The Cybersecurity Student Assistant is designed to provide exposure to a variety of security tasks that one should expect a junior or entry-level security analyst to perform. These include SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tool usage, virus/malware remediation, Procedural Documentation, audit support, incident response, and general tasks of the security operations center (SOC). In addition, CSA may be asked to complete a project to advance their understanding of cybersecurity. This project will be adjusted to the needs of TRWD and matched to the skill set of the student.

Job Description Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Log analysis
  • Malware/Virus removal and analysis
  • Phishing mailbox monitoring and remediation
  • Threat feed monitoring and updating
  • SIEM tool incident monitoring
  • SIEM tool dashboard/reporting creation and monitoring
  • Documentation and reporting
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic district levels of service
  • Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
  • Perform other duties as required
Required Experience:

Less than one (1) year of related experience General computer literacy Introductory knowledge of security concepts: AV, Firewall, etc. Good communication skills (Verbal and Written)
