Position Summary
Under broad supervision, oversees activities in the management of weeds, lawn turf, and ornamental plant pests, vegetation control. Plans and provides day‑to‑day guidance for appropriate corrections and treatments. This position may work in multiple locations.
Typical Duties
- Serves as an informational and technical resource regarding weed/vegetation control services to field personnel and various customers.
- Determines types of infestation based on observation and/or testing.
- Determines appropriate treatment method, process, and materials required.
- Coordinates with site manager and/or grounds crews for application schedule.
- Ensures all pesticides are used in accordance with labeling, safely stored, and disposed of legally.
- May be required to train and supervise agents working under the direction of the Pest Controller (Spray Technician).
- May be required to maintain a database on all pesticide application per state and federal regulations.
- Lifts, pushes, and swings nozzles, hoses, and tubes to direct spray over designated areas.
- Uses sprayer agitators or pumps or portable spray equipment.
- Connects hoses and nozzles selected according to terrain, distribution pattern requirements, types of infestations, and velocities.
- May clean areas that harbor pests using rakes, brooms, shovels, and/or mops preparatory to treatment.
- Cleans or services machinery to ensure operating efficiency, using water, gasoline, lubricants, or hand tools.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal regulations regarding agricultural pest control, spill response, personnel protection equipment including respiratory protection.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
- Ability to accurately record all pesticide applications.
- Computer literacy including skill to operate word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based applications.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to present information and respond to questions.
- Ability to interface with customers to maintain a positive working relationship.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Certificates Required
- Commercial Applicator Cert (Category B and C) or Qualified Applicator License
- Valid Driver's License
Physical Requirements
- Maneuvering to and around equipment
- Standing and walking
- Bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching
- Lifting boxes or equipment up to 50 pounds
- Climbing ladders or step stools
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in the field, driving to and from worksite locations performing surveillance, treatments, and quality control. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facilities. Employees may be exposed to toxic substances requiring a respiratory mask. Additionally, employees may be exposed to noise from equipment and to weather conditions such as wind, rain, cold, and heat.
