Job summary

Crystal Valley is seeking a Spray Drone Pilot Internship based in Mankato, MN for the May–August summer term. The role offers hands-on experience in drone application, field mission planning, and equipment maintenance under mentorship.

Responsibilities include performing drone-based crop protection applications, pre-flight checks, reporting, and providing maps and application reports to customers. Qualifications include pursuing an Agriculture degree and ability to obtain FAA Remote Pilot

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Precision Ag/Ag Systems Technology or related agriculture field.
• Ability to obtain FAA Drone Remote Pilot Certification.
• Agricultural or Ag retail background
• Previous internship experience desired

Responsibilities

• Perform custom drone application of agricultural products.
• Apply crop nutrients and protection products safely and efficiently.
• Prepare and maintain pre-flight inspections, logs, and reports.
• Provide maps and application reports to customers.

We are seeking a highly motivated Spray Drone Pilot based out of our Mankato, MN location for the summer months of May to August. Our internship experience will offer valuable insight into the spray drone profession through mentorship and real-world experiences.

Five Key Roles

Drone Application of Agricultural Products

• Perform custom application with spray drone
• Apply crop nutrients and crop protection products in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner
• Mixing, loading, and application of crop protection products and plant nutrition
• Ability to understand the chemistry and aerial label requirements of products

Drone Operations and Equipment Maintenance

• Responsible for completing a pre-flight inspections and daily logs
• Responsible scheduling and field mission planning
• Complete and maintain required application reports, vehicle inspection reports, and other required documentation

Equipment Maintenance

• Operate, service, and maintain custom application equipment
• Assist with housekeeping and maintenance of the facility, roadways and assigned vehicles/equipment

Customer Service

• Accurately load and unload product
• Provide prompt and courteous customer service
• Provide customers with maps and application reports

Other

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid driver’s license
• Class A CDL with tanker
• FAA Class 3 Medical Certificate
• Part 107 UAV Certification
• Minnesota Commercial Pesticide License (A,B,C)
• Maintain commercial applicators license
• Meet the driver qualification standards set by the self-insured group in which the cooperative is a member

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Precision Ag/Ag Systems Technology, or other Agriculture related degree program
• Ability to obtain FAA Drone Remote Pilot Certification
• Agricultural or Ag retail background
• Previous internship experience desired
• Desire to serve farmers, agribusinesses and others involved in the agriculture industry
• Willingness towork long hours (weekends and holidays included)
• Basic equipment operation skills
