Job summary

WGN-TV Chicago is seeking a passionate and highly organized Sports Producer to lead sports content across TV, streaming, and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate will be a strong journalist with deep knowledge of Chicago sports, capable of producing daily sportscasts, live events, and digital storytelling while collaborating with anchors, reporters, and newsroom leadership.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of television producing experience in television, streaming, digital, or sports media.
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong news judgment and understanding of sports storytelling.
• Excellent writing, organization, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce daily sports segments and sportscasts for broadcast and streaming platforms.
• Write and edit clear, engaging, and accurate sports content under deadline.
• Coordinate coverage of major local, regional, and national sporting events.
• Develop creative storytelling opportunities beyond highlights and scores.
• Collaborate with digital and social teams to maximize audience engagement across platforms.
• Assist with planning, booking, and execution of special projects and live event coverage.
• Work closely with reporters, photographers, editors, and anchors to ensure high-quality production standards.
• Identify opportunities to create digital, streaming, and vertical video content.

WGN-TV Chicago is seeking a passionate, creative, and highly organized Sports Producer to help lead the production of sports content across television, streaming, digital, and social platforms.

The ideal candidate is a strong journalist who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom, understands Chicago sports, and can create compelling content that engages audiences wherever they consume news. This producer will collaborate closely with sports anchors, reporters, assignment editors, and newsroom leadership to produce daily sportscasts, special coverage, streaming content, and digital storytelling opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Produce daily sports segments and sportscasts for broadcast and streaming platforms.
• Write and edit clear, engaging, and accurate sports content under deadline.
• Coordinate coverage of major local, regional, and national sporting events.
• Develop creative storytelling opportunities that extend beyond highlights and scores.
• Collaborate with digital and social teams to maximize audience engagement across platforms.
• Support livestream productions utilizing OBS, vMix, and related streaming technologies.
• Assist with planning, booking, and execution of special projects, feature stories, and live event coverage.
• Work closely with reporters, photographers, editors, and anchors to ensure high-quality production standards.
• Identify opportunities to create digital, streaming, and vertical video content.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years of television producing experience in television, streaming, digital, or sports media preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong news judgment and understanding of sports storytelling.
• Excellent writing, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to perform under pressure and meet multiple deadlines.
• Knowledge of Chicago sports teams, collegiate athletics, and major national sports.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as major events dictate.
• Experience with newsroom systems ENPS, BitCentral and Adobe Premier preferred but not required.

Salary Range

70K to 80K Annualized - commensurate with applicant's experience and skill level
