Job summary

YMCA of the Triangle in Raleigh, NC seeks a Sports Official to supervise and support youth sports programs under the Sports Director. You will help manage games, practices, and league initiatives while upholding YMCA safety standards.

Candidates must be at least 16, able to supervise peers, and communicate effectively with staff, participants, and families. Certification in Basic Life Support/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen is required upon hire.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• General understanding of sports, rules of the game, and interest in youth leagues.
• Ability to supervise peers, supervise safety, and promote a positive environment.
• Must obtain YMCA Basic Life Support/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications upon hire.
• Multilingual a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide feedback and communication to the Sports Director about the program.
• Assist in planning and implementing league initiatives, including scheduling, team building, and phone calls.
• Maintain strong, positive relationships with staff, participants, parents, and school faculty.
• Address poor sportsmanship and negative behavior during games.
• Serve as on-site director for games and practices.
• Act as staff member in charge when the Sports Director is not present.
• Ensure referees meet standards through training and supervision.
• Ensure facilities are clean and ready before and after programs.
• Attend departmental and program meetings and events.
• Uphold the highest safety standards at all times.
• Model relationship-building in all interactions.
• Maintain regular, clear communication within area of responsibility.
• Other duties as deemed by the Sports Director.

**POSITION SUMMARY:**Under the supervision of the Sports Director the Sports Official is responsible for the supervision, management, and assistance of the assigned YMCA sports programs as they specifically relate to the games and the calling of them. They hold responsibility for all aspects of the programs when the Director is unavailable.They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.Job Schedule (Days): Week Nights and SaturdaysJob Schedule (Time): 8:30 AM - 5 PM Saturday**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:*** Provide feedback and communication to the Sports Director about the program.* Assist in the planning and implementation of league initiatives, including scheduling, team building, and phone calls.* Maintains strong, positive relationship and strong communication with staff, participants, parents, and school faculty.* Display confidence when interacting with parents, coaches, and participants and directly address poor sportsmanship, negative competition, and negative cheering.* Serve as on-site director for games and practices.* Acts as staff member in charge when the Sports Director is not present.* Ensure that the referees are performing to standards and expectations set forth, including training, coaching, and supervising.* Ensure that sports facilities are clean and ready before and after programs.* Attend departmental and program meetings and events.* Ensure all programs are safe and maintains the highest safety standards at all times.* Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.* Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.* Other duties deemed appropriate by the Sports Director.**QUALIFICATIONS:*** Must be at least 16 years of age.* Must have a general understanding of sports, rules of the game, and interest in working with youth sporting leagues.* Ability to work with and supervise peers, encourage and motivate youth, and maintain a safe environment.* Must obtain certifications through the YMCA in Basic Life Support/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen upon hire.* Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.* Multi-lingual desired but not required.**WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:**The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
