Job summary

Caltech Athletics is seeking a part-time Sports Information Assistant to support the operation and coverage of intercollegiate contests. Under the direction of the Sports Information Director, you will help publicize athlete achievements, post game summaries, and maintain department content.

This role focuses on managing statistics, updating the athletics website, coordinating live statistics and streaming, and supporting game operations and promotions.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher required.
  • Prior experience in sports information, athletic communications, or game operations.
  • Familiarity with NCAA Division III rules, regulations, and philosophy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in general computer applications, software platforms, and database management systems.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, prioritize appropriately, and work both independently and within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Highly organized with consistent attention to detail.
  • Unimpeachable personal integrity and a demonstrated commitment to ethical and legal standards, particularly in the context of working with student-athletes.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, verify, record, report, and post all official game and individual statistics, results, and records to the SCIAC and NCAA utilizing StatCrew, Genius Sports, and other applicable game management software platforms.
  • During the offseason period (May 15 – September 15), assume primary responsibility for creating and updating statistical archives, maintaining website content, and supporting departmental marketing initiatives.
  • Assist in publicizing and celebrating the achievements of Caltech student-athletes, coaches, and programs through game summaries, feature articles, season previews, and season summaries in a variety of print, digital, and video formats.
  • Assist with the ongoing stewardship and maintenance of the department website, ensuring timely and accurate content updates.
  • Assist in managing the sports information components of home game operations across all sports, including securing scorers, timers, statisticians, and public address announcers as necessary.
  • Coordinate live statistics and video streaming services in an equitable, high-quality manner across all programs.
  • Ensure game officials are properly greeted upon arrival and that all required paperwork and payment coordination is completed in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with the Game Operations Coordinator and assigned coaching personnel in the planning and execution of all game management activities before, during, and following competitive contests.
  • Participate in occasional community engagement and prospective student-athlete recruiting activities as assigned.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Sports Information Director, the Sports Information Assistant plays a supporting role in the operational management of intercollegiate athletic contests and contributes to the broader communications and promotional efforts of Caltech Athletics. This position assists in publicizing and celebrating the accomplishments of Caltech student-athletes, coaches, and programs through game summaries, website updates, and other general promotional activities consistent with the values and identity of Caltech and the NCAA Division III philosophy.

This is a part-time, regular position with a primary focus on the management and coverage of collegiate sports contests. The typical schedule includes afternoons, evenings, and weekends, aligned with the pre-set competition calendars of our 16 intercollegiate programs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Communications, Journalism, Sport Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with StatCrew, Genius Sports, or comparable official statistics platforms.
  • Basic proficiency in content creation, photography, or video production tools.

Hiring Range

$20.00 - $33.00 Per Hour
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
