Job summary

North Sky Communications is seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer I to join our field team. You’ll perform high-precision optical fiber fusing, handle aerial and underground splicing, and troubleshoot post-installation networks.

Ideal candidates are comfortable climbing utility poles, working at heights, and following strict safety standards. We offer weekly pay, PTO, holidays, a 401(k) match, stock purchase plan, and education reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months direct fiber splicing experience (or 1+ year in telecommunications).
• Certified pole climber OR able to demonstrate proficiency using ladders, gaffs, and climbing gear.
• Must be 18+ years old and authorized to work in the U.S. for North Sky Communications.
• Valid State Driver’s License (non-provisional) with acceptable driving record.
• DOT medical card required to pass a DOT physical exam.
• Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent practical work experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-precision optical fiber fusing and cable upgrades in aerial and underground environments.
• Safely climb and navigate utility poles and confined spaces.
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot circuits post-installation to ensure reliable data transmission.
• Ensure field operations meet industry standards and client specifications.
• Document daily production, map marking, material usage, and basic vehicle maintenance checks.
• Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll do

As a key player on our field team, you’ll tackle critical aerial and underground fiber infrastructure:

Precision Splicing & Upgrades: Perform high-precision optical fiber fusing and cable upgrades across both aerial and underground environments.

Climb & Navigate: Safely work at elevated heights on utility poles and navigate underground spaces with confidence.

Network Testing & Diagnostics: Test, activate, and troubleshoot circuits post-installation to guarantee flawless data transmission.

Quality & Compliance: Ensure all field operations meet rigid industry standards and client specifications.

Report & Maintain: Document daily production, mark up maps, track material usage, and keep your company vehicle prepped with basic daily maintenance checks.

What you’ll need

Must-Have Qualifications:

Proven Fiber Splicing Experience: Minimum 6 months of direct fiber splicing experience (or 1+ year in telecommunications).

Climbing & Height Proficiency: Certified pole climber OR ready to demonstrate hands-on proficiency using ladders, gaffs, and climbing gear.

Age & Legal: Must be 18+ years old and authorized to work in the U.S. for North Sky Communications.

Driver’s License: Valid State Driver’s License (non-provisional) with an acceptable driving record.

DOT Medical Card: Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and maintain a valid medical card.

Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent practical work experience.

Preferred Extras:

Certified Pole Climber status.

Solid understanding of overall telecommunications network architecture.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This is an active field role that requires stamina, precision, and agility:

Routinely: Work at heights, operate heavy machinery/vehicles, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, fine hand manipulation, and lift up to 55 lbs independently.

Occasionally: Work in remote locations, crawl spaces, attics, or confined spaces using ladders and pole gaffs.
