Job summary

CI Services, a UniTek Global Services Company, is seeking a mid-level to senior Splicer to install and splice fiber, perform aerial and underground work, and lead field activities. The role requires hands-on experience with OTDRs, OSAMs, splice documentation, and high adaptability in field conditions.

The position involves traveling within the service area, standby on a 7/2 schedule, and regular coordination with lead crews.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Terminate, splice, and install fiber optic connectors and enclosures for loose tube and ribbon fiber.
  • Proficiently use fiber tools and test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter and OTDR.
  • Know relevant electronic equipment and specialty tools.
  • Troubleshoot damaged fiber quickly and efficiently.
  • Read and update splice documentation and maps as required.
  • Be available for 7 day/24 hour standby every 2 weeks.
  • Climb and use ladders on poles for accessing aerial fiber plant.
  • Perform aerial construction tasks: install aerial fiber, storage, pole transfers, cleanup.
  • Perform underground tasks: pull new cable, repair conduits and vaults.
  • Travel and overnight stays within coverage area.
  • Use MS Word/Excel for reporting.

Job description

The Splicer position is a mid-level to senior level construction worker that can perform both aerial and underground cable and fiber installation work, splice fiber, and has a good working knowledge of aerial and underground rules and regulations. , the Fiber Technician will be expected to undertake a lead and/or a foreman role in the field for both aerial and underground fiber related work. In Addition, technician will be working with DWDM light meters, OSAM's, tunable light sources, OTDR, CWDM, DWDM, single channel and mux wave management, piggy backed parent/child enclosure setups, FTTu, FTTh, RFoG, Matrix CREATION, Fiber as-built's and terminology. Able to troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing optical test equipment such as OTDRs, OSAMs, Fiber Identifiers, scopes and proper fiber standards and practices. Should be Familiar with OLT/PON cards and equipment, Patch panel and relay rack management and fiber connector preparation and care.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Terminate, splice, and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures including both loose tube fiber and ribbon fiber.
  • Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter and OTDR.
  • Knowledge of applicable electronic equipment and specialty tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber, effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required.
  • Be available for 7day/24-hour, standby periods every 2 weeks.
  • Climb and use ladders on poles for accessing aerial fiber plant.
  • Perform aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber, installing fiber storage (snowshoes), completing pole transfers, and performing cleanup work.
  • Perform underground construction activities, including pulling new cable/fiber through conduits, digging up and repairing damaged conduit and underground vaults or pedestals.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight within the coverage area.
  • Basic computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
