AccentCare invites applications for a Spiritual Counselor/Chaplain (Hospice) in El Centro, CA. The role provides spiritual care to patients and families, with on-call support in a PRN schedule.

Location is El Centro, with coverage for surrounding areas; remote work is not available. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and three ACPE CPE units, ordination/credentialing, and preferred hospice experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required from accredited college/university/divinity school.
• Ordained, credentialed, or commissioned per religious organization.
• Three CPE units from ACPE required (equivalencies may apply).
• Previous hospice experience preferred.
• Minimum one-year supervised experience in medical/educational/religious setting.
• Ability to provide inter-faith spiritual care with high cultural/theological competence.
• Experience or education in grief or loss counseling.

Responsibilities

• Support families through anticipatory grief and post-death bereavement.
• Complete spiritual needs assessment for patients admitted to hospice.
• Serve as liaison to patient and family’s community of faith; respond to needs.
• Support patient and family’s clergy or spiritual caregivers regarding terminal illness.
• Build relationships that empower patients to draw on strengths and supports.

Overview

Spiritual Counselor / Chaplain, Hospice

Location: El Centro, CA

Position: Spiritual Care Counselor, Hospice

Remote/Virtual Position: No

Coverage Area: El Centro, CA / surrounding areas

Salary: $30 -$40 / hour + mileage reimbursement

Schedule: PRN / As Needed + on call support

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, required, from an accredited college, university or divinity school
• Ordained, credentialed, or commissioned according to the practices of a legitimate and recognized religious organization or faith tradition
• Three Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) unit, from ACPE, required
  • CPE equivalencies granted per established guidelines of individual professional organizations
• Previous hospice experience, preferred
• Minimum one-year supervised experience in medical, educational or religious agency or institution
• Ability to provide an inter-faith approach to spiritual care, demonstrating a high level of cultural and theological competence in working with diverse faith and belief systems
• Experience or education in grief or loss counseling
• Qualifications for state-specific requirements above minimum education standards are as follows:
  • CT: Minimum three-years' experience providing pastoral or spiritual care

Responsibilities

• Support families and communities through the anticipatory grief and post-death bereavement processes
• Complete the spiritual needs comprehensive assessment of a patient and family-of-choice for all patients admitted to hospice services
• Serve as liaison to the patient and family's community of faith
  • Respond to patient and family needs
  • Support patient and family's clergy, or other spiritual caregiver, as relates to the terminal illness of the patients
• Build relationships of care and concerns partnering with persons in their spiritual journey, empowering them to draw from their identified areas of strength and support
