Job summary

Mountain Recreation is seeking a dependable Spin Instructor (Substitute) to provide on-call class coverage at the Gypsum Recreation Center. You will lead safe, engaging indoor cycling sessions for varied fitness levels, offering modifications and creating a positive class atmosphere.

The role is part-time & on-call, with non-exempt status and a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Certifications and CPR/First Aid are required or pursued within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • Must hold group fitness certification and CPR/First Aid within 30 days.
  • Be at least 18 years old and high school graduate.
  • Able to lead and motivate participants of varying fitness levels.

Gypsum Recreation Center is looking for a dependable and enthusiastic Substitute Spin Instructor to provide class coverage as needed. This position leads safe, engaging, and motivating indoor cycling classes for participants of varying fitness levels, provides appropriate modifications, and creates a positive and energetic class environment.

POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Spin Instructor – Substitute

Location: Gypsum Recreation Center (Gypsum, CO)

Employment Type: Part-Time, On-Call

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)

Schedule: Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and multi-day trips. Flexibility is required to successfully fulfill job responsibilities.

Supervision Required: Works under the direct supervision of the Facility Coordinator

Supervision Exercised: None

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Work schedule requires reliable attendance for short, scheduled shifts. The position requires consistent mental and visual attention while leading and monitoring participants. Physical demands include prolonged periods of indoor cycling, standing, walking, bending, demonstrating cycling techniques and movements, and occasional lifting or moving equipment. The position requires frequent use of voice for instruction and may involve periods of continuous physical activity and participant interaction.

Salary: $25.00/hour non-certified; $35/hour certified; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Statement of Duties: Lead safe and rewarding group exercise classes, assisting individuals to achieve their personal fitness goals.

Examples of Duties:

  • Instructs assigned classes, programs, and activities.
  • Plans, organizes and implements curriculum based upon overall program objectives and guidelines.
  • Closely supervises and oversees the safety, comfort and progress of participants.
  • Assists class participants in developing and achieving their individual goals.
  • Develops rapport with participants and responds to questions and concerns.
  • Collaborates with Facility Coordinator and Gypsum Recreation Center Management staff to develop, plan and schedule classes and programs.
  • Communicates with staff regarding facility, equipment and supply needs.
  • Sets up, take down, clean-up, before and after class as required.
  • Addresses program specific risk management/safety issues.
  • Facilitates inclusion of special needs participants in program.
  • Manages accidents and incidents according to procedures.
  • Acts as a mandatory reporter and complies with mandatory reporting guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of: exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, and current group exercise and fitness practices and techniques for assigned classes.

Skills and abilities: Strong ability to lead fitness classes utilizing a variety of techniques, styles and formats; instruct and provide for the needs of a variety of ages and fitness levels; communicate effectively; strong planning, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate a positive, motivating and caring demeanor when teaching; physically perform the duties associated with this position; work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationship with staff and the general public.

Requirements:

Education and experience

  • Be 18 years of age or older; AND
  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent
Certifications
  • Hold group fitness certification and/or specific certification for classes
  • May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
