Position Summary

This position is responsible for providing speech-language pathology services to a pediatric population, from neonatal through adolescence/young adulthood. Performs evaluation, program planning, and treatment of patients in the areas of speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, feeding, and swallowing, specific to age and developmental/functional level determined by assessment. This role addresses routine problems in the work environment by helping or referring other, more experienced team members and or leaders. This position manages a daily workload, identifies routine issues in the work area, and solves problems with guidance from other professionals, as needed.

Position Duties

• Professional Speech Language Pathology Services
  • a.Evaluates and treats patients with a wide range of diagnoses including but not limited to speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, feeding, and swallowing.
  • b.Demonstrates knowledge of typical development and possesses skills necessary to provide age-appropriate services. Uses pediatric-based behavior management strategies and matches diagnostic/therapeutic interventions to age/ability of the child, using a framework of family-centered care.
  • c.Establishes appropriate treatment plans with age-appropriate, functional, and measurable goals with target timeframes.
  • d.Obtains mutual agreement upon discussion with family/guardian. Implements patient's plan of care using various treatment modalities as prescribed by a physician.
  • e.Performs patient/family teaching for maximizing function within the home/community and implementation of home program.
  • f.Provides care as outlined in standards of care according to ASHA and the Phoenix Children's Policies & Procedures Manual.
  • g.Maintains productivity standards for clinical level and appropriate and timely documentation in compliance with department, regulatory/accreditation standards, and state/federal guidelines.
• Builds and maintains rapport within the department, hospital, and community, professionally interacting with physicians, families, and hospital/community personnel. This includes participation in in-service training programs.
• Supervises and directs rehab technicians, and/or students, providing feedback on performance.
• Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Additional Requirements

1. Current AZ Department of Health Services license, prior to start date. Required

2. Current BLS Certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association, prior to start date. Required

3. Current ASHA certification or in clinical fellowship year (CFY), prior to start date. Required

4. ASHA pediatric and/or specialty certification. Preferred
