Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist (Inpatient) to deliver comprehensive speech-language pathology services to pediatric and adult patients in an outpatient setting and across the rehabilitation team.

You will evaluate, diagnose, and treat communication, cognitive-communication, voice, language, and swallowing disorders, developing individualized plans that promote functional independence.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a CAA-accredited program.
• Current and unrestricted New Jersey SLP license or temporary license.
• CCC-SLP certification from ASHA preferred or required based on position; BLS/CPR certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive speech-language, cognitive-communication, voice, language, and dysphagia evaluations.
• Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans to maximize independence.
• Provide therapy interventions for pediatric and adult patients in outpatient settings.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nurses, social workers, and other team members to coordinate care.
• Educate patients and families on strategies and home programs to support progress.
• Complete timely documentation including evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries.

A typical day for a Speech-Language Pathologist may include:

• Conducting comprehensive speech-language and swallowing evaluations, re-evaluations, and standardized assessments to identify communication, cognitive, voice, speech, language, and dysphagia needs.
• Developing and implementing individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that support each patient's functional goals and maximize independence.
• Providing skilled therapy interventions for patients with communication, language, cognitive, speech, voice, and swallowing disorders across diverse outpatient populations.
• Collaborating with physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
• Educating patients, families, and caregivers on therapeutic strategies, home exercise programs, compensatory techniques, adaptive equipment, and recommendations that support continued progress outside of therapy sessions.
• Developing appropriate discharge plans and home programs that promote continued functional improvement and successful transition following therapy.
• Completing timely and accurate clinical documentation, including evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, discharge summaries, billing documentation, and other required medical records in accordance with RWJBarnabas Health policies and professional practice standards.
• Accurately documenting therapy services and associated charges in accordance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
• Recommending adaptive equipment and providing patient and caregiver education to maximize safety, communication, swallowing function, and independence.
• Supervising speech-language pathology students and clinical fellows, when applicable, by providing mentorship, constructive feedback, and formal performance evaluations.
• Assisting with the maintenance, organization, and recommendations for departmental treatment equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Participating in continuing education, mandatory training, staff meetings, and professional development activities while maintaining clinical competencies.
• Meeting productivity expectations while providing compassionate, patient-centered care and representing RWJBarnabas Health with professionalism and clinical excellence.

To Be Considered:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA).
• Licensure: Current and unrestricted New Jersey Speech-Language Pathology license or temporary license issued by the State of New Jersey.
• Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred or required based on position. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
• Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of speech-language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing evaluation techniques; evidence-based treatment planning; dysphagia management; patient and family education; adaptive equipment recommendations; clinical documentation; interdisciplinary collaboration; and outpatient rehabilitation practices.
