Job Summary:

Performs comprehensive diagnostic evaluations of speech and language disorders. Provides short-term therapy or makes appropriate referrals. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of ones actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • This position, knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of two patient identifiers and procedural time outs. Reports safety hazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly.

  • Interviews patients, obtains case histories, and evaluates speech, language and voice problems.

  • Plans, evaluates and revises treatment methods and techniques to meet patients needs.

  • Provides short-term therapy within benefit guidelines.

  • Provides consultation and coordination with physicians and other disciplines regarding speech pathology referrals and patient care programs.

  • Teaches and consults with patients and their families to enhance the patients communication skills.

  • Develops and recommends procedures and policies for the Speech/Language program.

  • Maintains records in accordance with professional practice, State and Federal guidelines and program policy.

  • Provides in service education for professional and support staff.

  • Establishes and maintains community resource referral system for additional services.

  • Participates in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations to maintain and upgrade professional skills.

Education


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a masters degree or equivalent in speech pathology or related field.


License, Certification, Registration


  • Speech-Language Pathologist Certificate (Colorado) required at hire from American Speech/Language and Hearing Association

  • National Provider Identifier required at hire

  • Basic Life Support required at hire


Additional Requirements:


  • Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities and the ability to understand Kaiser Permanente customer need.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • N/A


Preferred skills in Tracheoesophageal Prosthesis management and changes.


Trained and proficient in treating adults and pediatrics. Trained to perform and interpret Modified Barium Swallow studies.
