Job Summary

Diagnoses and treats speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Engages in the scientific study of human communication. Evaluates speech and language skills related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors. Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic and nonorganic etiology. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Essential Functions
  1. Provides initial evaluation and determines a plan of care, including performing Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) evaluations in conjunction with Radiology, and communicates results effectively.
  2. Participates in quality assurance, maintains productivity measures, and utilizes modalities and equipment properly.
  3. Provides instruction through demonstration, written, and verbal communication.
  4. Provides feedback and follow-up to physicians and participates in discharge planning.
  5. Assists patients in achieving their goals, maximizing performance and function.
  6. Collaborates with other therapy staff and disciplines to facilitate optimal outcomes.
  7. Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and students regarding the Plan of Care.
  8. Assists with marketing and promotion of the therapy clinic and facility.
  9. Demonstrates compliance with ASHA ethical roles and obligations, as defined by Tennessee practice act, in patient management, consultation, education, research, and administration.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned, complying with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or equivalent from an accredited speech-language pathology program (required).
  • 1-2 years of experience or familiarity with standard concepts and practices in the field (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend instructions, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic calculations and interpret data.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense and solve problems involving multiple variables.
  • Computer Skills: Basic proficiency with computers.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support (required)
  • Current license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required), or completing clinical fellowship verifiable online.
